i keep getting then message when i try to back up my phone so i can install the new .86. i have backed up my storm before and loaded different leaked os's and this has never happened to me. any advice? thanks

Try clearing the browser catch first. When you update, it will do a backup too.

What are the exact errors that you are getting?

My blackberry is actually getting "communication error between device and blackberry desktop manager" errors when I try to go through advanced backup. I can't even wipe it to just start fresh because it has "connection failures" to my computer....

I have issues too. I restored from previous version and STILL can't backup it stopped previously at TRL options and now at quick contacts. Any advice?

No go =/ A quick question for you though. When you connect your device to your computer, do you have to enter in a password for the blackberry? I remember I set one the first time I was able to successfully back it up and now it never prompts me....

I do not have a password on my BB, so no I never have had to.

I am not sure what to tell you. I just backed mine up with no problem. Hopefully one of the experts will know what is going on.
