    1XEV = 3g
    1X = 2.5g

    This has been covered before.

    3G = 3rd Generation Wireless. Its not really a standard.

    On GSM carriers like AT&T... their 3rd Gen is HSPA. When the iPhone or other 3g capable hand set enter's HSPA areas, the phone displays 3G.

    On CDMA carriers like Verizon, Bell, Telus, Alltel, their 3rd Generation is actually EVDO.

    So any EVDO phone in an EVDO area is using VZW's 3rd generation wireless technology and will display EV, 1XEV, or EVDO.
