Do you guys think using a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of the gaps around the screen will hurt the phone?

YES!!! ** DO NOT DO IT ***
The compressed air will force dust into the seal and in between the LCD and digitizer.
Just let the dust get inside the phone, it won't hurt the electronics and use a microfiber glass cleaning cloth to keep the screen clean.
