I made a call and they came back.

If it happens again, with the eraser of a pencil, pull your sim card.
Leave it out unless you travel abroad..

I had the same problem. I made a phone call and the icon appeared again. That is the strangest thing. What is up with pulling the sim card unless I travel abroad?

You don't need the sim card installed unless you want to use your phone outside of the US.

Your service books need(ed) to be resent, go to BlackBerry Internet Service I'm assuming you've used this before, just go in, on the menu click service books, then click the tab to send service books, your phone should get the data arrows inn the top right corner of the screen and within a few seconds you should be good.
