Hey, I'm a lone user and need BES server services. Why BlackBerry don't offer for us ( little companies with 1-3 user) a posibility to have BES Services . I suppose that the BES server needed can be created into BlackBerry Cloud services and in this way every simple user can have this protected communication.
Thanks a lot for an answer!

I'm the only BlackBerry user at work and I run a BES just for me. Server software is free, and CAL was only $19 for a year. Only other cost would be your Windows license if you don't put BES on an existing server. I don't know about cloud BES, but that would seem a good option too.

What are the benefits for using Bes with one user? Do you get drive mapping or something?

BES Cloud looks a better MDM option for small consumers 1-5 employees, as the main objective is to enable BlackBerry Balance and control the Mobile from the cloud. BES10 Server require some hard core IT skills to set up on a Windows Server and preferred for larger organizations with IT expertise.

What if I am the only consumer? How does the cloud work? Is it like a subscription service?

There is no BBM Protect on BES10 Cloud. You have to choose- hosted BES Server(with BBM Protect) or BES10 Cloud.

BED cloud can be activated per device for 19$/year. BlackBerry Balance can be activated with BES cloud and not BBM protected. Remote Mobile device management is possible with BES cloud for BlackBerry and Android devices.

I thought once you have BlackBerry Balanced you could avail bbm protected? Also is it for everyone or for certain countries? My carrier is hopeless about BlackBerry questions.

May I ask, what exactly are you looking for that you want BES?

No, it has to be enabled separately through an IT policy. Recently support was extended to all activation modes, that's probably what you're thinking of.

Activation mode? So I assume I can get balance activated with my pin? Will it be white listed? Can you elaborate how does it work?

There are three activation modes. Work Space and Personal - Corporate, Work Space and Personal - Regulated, and Work Space only. Initially it was only available for the latter.

To get BBM Protected, keeping in mind it is fairly useless for one user, you must have a BES server deployed. You then activate your device against the BES server, and set an IT Policy "Use BBM Protected" (IT policies are configuration documents that dictate restrictions/settings for activated devices) to "Yes".

For an explanation of how BBM Protected works, see here and here.
