Good day everyone... We are currently running BES 5.0.3 MR6 (Bundle 163) and manage approximately 100 various BB devices. We have had an incident in one of our departments in which one of our BB users managed to wipe his BB prior to being terminated and escorted from the building. We have had a request to add a restriction to this departments BES policy that would prevent the local user from wiping his or her device. Is this possible? Ive looked through the various IT policy settings available and cannot seem to find anything specific for this request. Thanks in advance for your responses

Seems to me, if such a policy were possible, the risk from a phone stolen/misplaced then giving the person in possession infinite chances to crack the password, more troublesome than your current scenario.

Thanks for the reply but I asked if there was a policy to prevent a local security wipe, not a remote wipe. If a phone was lost or missplaced we would still be able to initiate a remote wipe via BES. We need to prevent the user from performing a local security wipe.

One never knows the time frame involved, before it's reported missing. You would have to disable the password entry limit, if you ever wanted to prevent a local wipe.

I'm not as concerned about disabling that as I am the ability to perform a security wipe within the security options in the Blackberry itself. It takes a longer time for someone to enter the PW incorrectly several times than it does to navigate to and initiate a local wipe directly.

So do I. I'd hate to have to open up a suport case with RIM. Thanks...

So I'm going to ask a weird question; what does it matter if he wiped the phone?

Not a weird question at all but I cannot discuss the details at this time.
