    Hey Crackberry,

Wondering if anyone has attempted to update old BES licenses recently and using them in BES10.
Ran into an issue a couple days ago where I wanted to upgrade a couple license from our BES5 installation to be used in BES10. Once the upgrade was complete I tried to load the licenses but BES10 would not accept them.

Reviewed this further and found that Blackberry has released a new verseion of 10 (10.1) and that the licenses are associated to that. This being said I attempted to upgrade to 10.1 but I keep getting an error that a previous management console is installed (though I have removed it).

    This all being said,
I am looking for input on the following:
-Either downgrade the 10.1 licenses to support BES10
    or
-Any input on cleanly resolving the BES10.1 installation (referencing the management console error)

Per reading I know that I can merge my BES10 and BES5 servers into one under BES10.1 but for the sake of separation (and possible laziness) I would rather keep the current BES5 server installation and work with the BES10 or upgrade to 10.1.

I appreciate any and all assistance with regards,

I'd suggest opening a case with BlackBerry, that way someone can walk you through the upgrade. I was under the impression that one couldn't upgrade to 10.1 without first being on 10.0. Not 100% sure on that, but...

You can upgrade your 5.x licenses and 10.0 licenses to 10.1 and run them simultaneously.

For example I converted 170 bes 5 licenses to 10.1 (free) and I have 170 of each now. Obviously in good faith you don't want to be using more than 170 in total but it makes the upgrade process much simpler.

You have to buy MDM licenses for 10.1 separately however. The free upgrade is only good For balance licenses.

At the end of the year you will be issued X number of BES 10.1 CALs based on the number you currently have in use. Any other BES5 converted to BES 10.1 CALs will be revoked.

Say you have 500 BES 5 CALs now.
You transition 250 to BES 10.1

End of the year, you have 100 active BES 10.1 devices.

You will receive 100 BES 10.1 CALs at the end of the year, your transitioned CAL will go dead. You will also receive 400 CALs for BES 5 (your 500 BES 5 CALs will be dead)

Net, you still have 500 CALs, 100 on BES 10.1, 400 on BES 5.

At least that is the plan?

I would need to verify the 10.1 situation with BlackBerry but AFAIK the BES 5 CALs will remain untouched as BlackBerry has no way of revoking those. (currently)
