Just got word directly from BlackBerry the they are pulling the plug on BlackBerry cloud services. IE bes in the cloud. Too bad we were in beta and loved the app. Beware anyone else utilizing the beta, it will disappear shortly....

Sorry, should have added this is for the bes10 version. As far as I know the previous version of BBCS for older devices will still be available.

Pulling the plug on the beta or BES10 Cloud?

I'd be very surprised if they are pulling the plug on BES10 Cloud as it's already live and in use in the Government sector.

In the UK for example, where I am, Public Sector departments, organisations and local government bodies can buy space on a BES10 Cloud server to use through the UK Government's G-Cloud right now, it's been live for months.

Bes10 cloud is going away. It is still on beta and do not believe it's on use by any government. Bes10 is not going anywhere, just the cloud based version.

You can not believe it's in use in Government as much as you like, doesn't change the truth. This is CrackBerry's article back when it launched:

Hang on, you've got this wrong.

BlackBerry Cloud Services is the name for the old cloud hosted BES5 service NOT "BES10 Cloud".

Doesn't surprise me at all that they are starting to wind down BES5 Cloud Services, I would imagine it's a 'no new customers' type of situation and they will try to push existing customers on to BES10 Cloud.

It's just that you keep referring to it as BBCS, BlackBerry Cloud Services, which is hosted BES5.

I think it's much more likely that the BES5 version has now gone End of Life.

BES10 is BlackBerry's short to medium term future and everything in IT in Enterprise is moving towards Cloud Service availability as an option for customers. Can't see them dropping it now unless it's been proven as totally unprofitable in the beta.

Okay, so here's the skinny (lol). So, Bes10 cloud services is sticking around in its current form for now, in beta. Clients who are participating in the beta won't have the plug pulled. BlackBerry is working on its next iteration of the platform, timeline TBD. What the differences are, not sure? But what I can tell is its an easy migration from one to the other. However, I was given a word of warning from BlackBerry themselves, the plug could be pulled st any time so have a backup plan ready.
    All for now....

So it's not being axed at all, the beta is closing to new participants and it's just going to be a different architecture (and called Unite) when it finally launches.

All quite normal with beta products really.
