I saw that the Q5 does not support CDMA....is this true? Or would it work on LTE mode? I REALLY want to buy a pink one for my teenaged daughter and she REALLY wants one...but we're with VZW

You've heard right, unfortunately. Three Q5 variants have been announced so far, and they're all GSM. Plus, none of them of the has Verizon's LTE band.

Verizon still uses CDMA for voice, only data is on LTE. So, you'd need a CDMA model and even if you could find one I don't think Verizon will activate any non-Verizon-branded phone anyway. Those jerks.

I don't think a smartphone has to be Verizon branded to be eligible for activation. It just has to be *approved*.

Can I bring my own compatible phone?

Yes. You may activate your own device if it’s approved by Verizon Wireless. To determine whether your device is Verizon Wireless approved call us at 800-922-0204.
It's unlikely VZW has or would approve the Q5 for use on its network. It just doesn't have the radios needed to interface with Verizon's network. It's possible the Q5 may come to U.S. carriers later this year since the only BB10 handsets offered in the U.S. right now are the more expensive ones (though the Z10 is currently on sale at an extremely reasonable on-contract price).

What about getting a Q10 and a pink case for the Q10?

And that's where it starts, and stops for now. Even if Verizon approval wasn't an issue, there is no Q5 that could work on Verizon's networks. Period. No other CDMA version you could flash or whatever, no LTE band 13. Nothing.
