As an app developer knowing my customers can't buy my app in India using a debit card is not cool. JC please look into it. No one gets a credit card just to buy apps!
OP, do debit cards work on iOS and Google Play stores?
I had exactly the same problem with two different cards from different countries. My solution was to add it via web browser on my computer not on my cellphone. You can try paypal good luck!

This issue is because in India, there's an added security layer to online transactions done through debit/credit cards. For visa cards, it's "Verified by Visa". And for Mastercard, it's "Mastercard securecode".
What this does is that, after entering card details, the screen takes you to a Web page of the relevant bank and asks to enter the respective "password" for VBV or Mastercard securecode which is already set by the user.
Most payment portals don't acknowledge this particular method, especially the portals outside India. So we, Indians can't use our Debit cards to purchase apps at all
But credit cards work normally like in other countries, but they too have this special verification if it goes through an Indian portal.
I cant relate to this but again I am in Pakistan and I have used my card successfully online. You have to ask your bank to set it up for online transaction in some cases. I also use PayPal for BlackBerry. Finally did you know that you could use android apps on BlackBerry? Read about side loading if you don't know already. Good luck
