I am facing this issue since last few months or may be since last update and due to these I miss 90% calls when my Q5 is in my pocket. When my Q5 is in my pocket and there is incoming call, and my pant touches the screen and incoming call become silent, no ring no vibration. It happens even before there is single ring. And these happens only when cell is in my pocket. Is there any setting where I can turn off the feature "Touch the screen to make it silent" Please help me with these, if I find no solution I will have to forcefully say good bye to my Q5. I can't afford to Miss 90% calls.

Even the case will touch the screen when it's in the pocket. Right?

I use a genuine BlackBerry z10 case, with the power saving feature and it automatically locks the screen by putting it into Holster Mode. It also drastically increases the battery life.

There is a little magnet built into this case which makes this magic happen.
The case was tight in the beginning, but the phone fits in it better every day.

Just a quick addition, I see used Z10 cases for sale all the time in my local classified adds dirt cheap. I bought mine still in the package for $10.00 that way.

OP, there's no option to switch it off but there are flip covers for Q5 that you could use?

Do other platforms have the option?
I have a GSM Galaxy tab, it does not. Even my Lumia didn't.

Thanks guys for your valuable opinions. I will try flip cover as there is no other option.

Hey. Just wanted to let you know that the same issue is present in my Z30 too. So you're not alone.

Hopefully this would be fixed in an update.

Hey and just to let U know.
    This is not an issue.
It's a feature. And I love having this feature because sometimes when I'm in a meeting and usually I left the phone on the table.
And when it suddenly rings, I just tap anywhere on the screen to silence it without needing to look at the screen.
Easy, right? Many others live this feature too.
Instead of having a dedicated button on the screen, BlackBerry out the whole screen as the button to silence the phone.
    Neat.

Does it change anything if your phone is facing in (toward you) or out (away from you)?

That's odd. My phone rings in my pocket ALL the time and the ringer doesn't silence till I touch the screen with my hand (finger)

It's not an issue for me, actually i love it lol. When im in class and accidentally turned off meeting mode then my phone suddenly rings, i just tap anywhere then pretend it's not mine haha. Also, my phone doesn't go to silent even when someone calls and my phone is in my pocket. I wear slightly tight jeans btw and loose shorts. Actually loose pants/shorts are the ones that should be blamed here. I have this loose shorts where it unlocked my phone while i was walking and sent an email to my university.

This just happened to me actually. I was on my way home from school and my mother called and my leg was moving at the same time and it silenced the call abruptly. It can be irritating, but I'm sure I'll find a use for it one day.

Exactly. 2 months back it was same with me, it used to get silent only when I touch the screen with my hand.

It doesn't seem to make sense to allow users to silence a call with a touch anywhere on the screen, when there's a dedicated button just for that action on the call screen itself.

Why keep the button there then? Seems like a quirk to me.

Just place it in your pocket facing outwards. If the screen is facing inwards the material in your pocket is so thin it still detects the skin on your thigh as a "touch"

When I am in a meeting, I press the screen to silence a call, so it continues to ring (the caller still hears it, but for me it is silent) until the answering machine turns on and the caller may speak and let me know why he called.
By "ignoring" the call, I just hang up... It is "insulting" and unproductive... I hate it when some one does it with me and might never call him back!!

Because not all people know that touching anywhere in the screen will silent the call. That's why there's a dedicated button for silent.

There's a dedicated button it, no doubt.
But we BlackBerry users want to have it quick and efficient by muting the phone without looking at the screen.
Much faster than looking at the phone, find the button and tap on it.
The button is probably there in case someone new to BlackBerry haven't found out about the touch anywhere to mute.
