So the Q5 is announced for "emerging markets" and it has been watered down a bit to reduce costs.
Here are a few things that were done to reduce costs
    Slower processor
    Lesser built in memory
Non removable battery (no battery door)
LCD display instead of oled or something fancy
    Non premium materials
A less than super awesome keyboard
5mp rear camera instead of 8mp
    No Hdmi out

All these things have been done to the phone for the sole purpose of driving down the costs, but the question is how much.

I believe they will likely bring it to market at an approximate price of 280 to 300 USD off contract.

But i also believe, that for this phone to really be able to compete in the market, they need to bring it in at a price point of about 180 USD.

What do you guys think ?

I don't think it should be marketed in First World countries. I feel it should be marketed in places where people are still using old BB on voice BBM plans only.

If it's available in the US, I'd get it.

I don't need the other fancy stuff. It's nice to have, but I use two phones anyway (Android). I just want a great quality keyboard and I love how BB does messaging.

    Z10? Why yes it is.

HTC One’s keyboard is better than anything I've ever used. Q5 is supposed to have a less than craptacular keyboard to cut cost and IMHO help people with extra money decide to buy the higher end models.

This will be a mid-range QWERTY BlackBerry not an Entry level BlackBerry. I see it somewhere between 200-300 maybe a bit more. I hope they can release a good priced entry level model in the future somewhere like the curve range which is around 120-200, although not the cheapest I think that is fair considering the platforms requirements and certain things they must take in to account like specs and so on.

Not to mention that they can not command BIS Revenues on these products and as such can not use those revenues to subsidize the cost of the phone barely making profit at all or possibly even no profit.

Actually, I would be happy to buy the Q5 if it came in at $250 in the US.

200 to 250 off contract to compete with nokias offerings of the 520 and 620. Much higher and iv think it might struggle to fight with those guys.

It would be quite interesting ti see at that price point, awfully close to my Window for tech toys.

Analysts are saying if it's not $100-150 price range it may be DOA but they are mistaking it for an entry level phone when it's really a midrange one.

No way the cost is going to be below $200. My guess is $299.

To compete with android have to be cheap and I don't belive they'll do it.

But, if you want to sell, you have to low the price a lot.

The price will change, it'll go down with time. It'll start off as a mid range phone and end it's life as an entry level phone.

So the answer is 'all of the above'.

The point is the carriers are going to decide on the price and not BlackBerry. I hope the carriers are smart to price it at an affordable price for emerging markets. It would be great if they can price it less than $250.

Any price above USD225.00 off - contract will be overpriced. But BlackBerry is not known for its brilliant strategic thinking. The BlackBerry Q5 could be the perfect entry-level smartphone in North America and Europe. For other regions it would be an ideal all round smartphone.

It seems slightly odd to me that people are even mentioning the price of the q5 in USD when we already know that is one place that will not be getting the phone and simply converting say the UK price into dollars would not be meaningful since the costs never match up exactly like that.

Converting from Canadian Dollars should work just fine though. Current exchange rate should have you just paying a few pennies more, plus shipping or gas to cross the border. If it's released here, anyways.

Otherwise I'll have to see about getting my hands on one the next time I'm in the UK. Three has always been good to me.
