But isn't there a slimmer profit margin on the Q5?
Considering the Q10 has just barely been available in the US, it might be a little early to say that...
Nothing will sell well from now on if it is coming from BlackBerry, nobody will risk more money on incomplete products.
I can't believe how ***** Mr. Lies (Thorsntein) is giving the PlayBook news earlier this am.
Was that English?
I have some doubts cause the Q5 is still priced at a high price in the UK, India etc
Needs to really be priced as aggressively while still profitable and sell like crazy in India, SE Asia, South America etc.......

Pre order price here is $499.95. You think they're being sensible with this sort of pricing??
Emerging markets will struggle to accept a lower spec at that price point. For example, India is a very price sensitive market, and there's been a huge migration to android due to wider and cheaper product offering. Similar trend visible in other emerging markets as well.
Thorsten and his team need to get their feet on the geound. Rebuild customer loyalty as it's decimated currently, and then, try to get them to trade up. PlayBook announcement has simply enraged a big (and loyal) customer base.
CAD250.00 should be the BlackBerry Q5 price off contract.

Where is that, UK? I agree it's too high
But if you can still get it for $40 on contract that makes it competitive

You're joking right? The only decent phone I know of with an off contract price even close to that is the Nexus 4, which is $300.
If blackberry should price this device at 249.99 or 299.99 without contract. This would help recover the damage
Australia. It's way too high.
This aint the answer its a whole bunch of stuff.
Last quarter $2.7 billion... this quarter $3.1 billion...
Errmmmm... BlackBerry are saved....
My Tech-Fleet: Q10; Z10; PlayBook; Surface Pro; Xbox 360; HP TouchPad; iPod Touch 5
There's too much overestimation or overrating at BB HQ.I think this will be the last time we see the 5 models.Just doesn't make sense profit wise, production wise, and at the pricing front.
BlackBerry needs to sell truckloads of the BlackBerry Q5 to regain market share and mindshare. The pricing has entice potential customers. A CAD250.00 off contract BlackBerry Q5 with low margin is better than an unsold BlackBerry Q5 sitting in a warehouse.

the q5 is the ugliest creation ive ever seen from blackberry and if anything is going to help blackberry, its going to be the z10

I just noticed first stores will start having the Q5 for sale next week here in Germany. Prices start at roughly 400 Euro off-contract. That is a rather big problem IMO. In comparison, the Z10 starts at 410 Euro and averages in the 440-460 Euro pricerange. So basicly for just a couple of more bucks you can get a Z10. I am not sure if this is working as intended.
The next problem are other plattform devices competing at this price range. Samsungs Galaxy S3 sells for roughly 380 Euro - a tad cheaper than the Q5. Their Windows Phone powered Ativ S, which basicly is the S3 just running the Microsoft OS, goes for as low as 230?.
Nokia is in the race with ~250 Euro for their Lumia 820 or about 350 Euro for their ex-flagship Lumia 920. So basicly all of the last years flagship devices are cheaper than the budget-oriented Q5, which basicly still has last years technology in terms of internals.
I am sometimes looking for a new device for my girlfriend and originally I was quite sure to take a real close look at the new Q5. However now seeing what the competition has to offer at way lower price tags, I am not sure, even as a BB fan, whether I'd even consider the Q5 anymore. I'd rather spend 10 euros more and get the Z10 if I'd really, really want to buy her a BB device.
Edit:
Well I just noticed the CB10 app doesn't like the Euro currency symbol and replaced it with ??? sorry for that.

I see Expansys Australia advertising a "huge" price cut on the Q5 today - to $454 AUD. Crazy price. They'd need to knock another $154 off that to make it worthwhile.
Expansys is selling it for more than the Galaxy Mega.

I am dead serious. BlackBerry needs to truckloads of the BlackBerry Q5 if the company has any hope of survival. That is if Thorsten isn't plotting to exit the hardware business.
