i plan on buying a used bb q5 phone, which seems to be in a very good condition. But quickly one thing cought my eye and i wonder if i should be bothered by the dust(it seems) that are in the spaces between the keys..

Q5 is a decent phone but you'll be missing out with the limited device storage vs the Z10 and Q10 and also the lack of an HDMI output. The dust can be blown out with a can of compressed air. Depending on the price you're getting it for it might be a good deal though. Also, I advise people to try the touch experience on the Z series before assuming that they could never get used to a touchscreen keyboard or just hate them. I'm a convert and I'm not looking back.

I don't think you have to be bothered about anything. However, think about the better things that you can do with a Q10 (memory upgrade, hdmi, replaceable battery etc). I had to choose between a Q5, Z10 and a Q10. I got myself the Q10. No regrets.

Battery life. I know that from the specs it seems not to exist such a big difference but believe me: Q5's battery life is AMAZING (for nowadays smartphones) while Q10's is just great. The storage can be a problem if you plan to install a lot of 3D games (and I don't believe is the case for a qwerty phone..). Photos, videos, songs and documents can be stored on an microsd easily..

Thank you for all the insights you guys have, but i think the best possible option for me at the moment is the q5.. just still ain't sure if that keyboad is clean enought and if i compressed air will do the trick.

The compressed air will blow it right away, looks like a good buy, once everything is functional

I didn't like the Q5! Battery drained in 1/2 a day and couldn't install another one is they can't be removed. Had to charge it! Not much storage space, wouldn't stay on vibrate, every time I retrieved it from my holster it would switch to normal. Get a Q10 for sure

Doubt dust is a problem if the price is right. I suspect since you're looking at a used Q5, price matters so I don't understand all the comparisons to phones that cost 2 or 3 times as much new. I have a q-5, battery life is great so not swapping out is not an issue to me. Best part with it is I don't need a battery pull every week like the old os7. Camera is better in other phones but remember the higher price. I have a 32 gig card which cost 15 bucks so memory not an issue either.
If your in Canada just buy a new Koodo for 150.

I'm really surprised by your comments on the battery. Mine is great and I use my Q5 a lot. Granted I don't use it for much media and games but it's a beast from a battery point of view. Q10 is also a great choice so I agree with you there. But for me the Q5 works really well.

Ya honestly I'm really happy with the battery life of the Q5. I owned the Q10 at one point and I can comfortably say that the battery life is basically identical.

Battery way better than my z10. Storage is an issue because you only have about 5 gigs available. You can't install apps on memory card. That phone looks really dusty, I wouldn't trust it as for it to have gotten that bad god knows where it's been or how the owner abused it.

    Hey O.P.
I think a soft tip wood toothpick (say that ten time fast) and compressed air will take care of the dirt around the keys without any problems.
    .
I just saw this review (link below) of the Q5 posted on a BBM Channel. I was surprised how good it actually is. This guy really knows his stuff.

Are you sure that's dust? Does the Q5 keyboard light up like the Q10's? If it does, then the white "specs" actually look like the back light shining through the silicone membrane behind the keyboard keys.

My Q5 battery life is about 12 hrs with apps running in the back (Twitter, Path, Facebook, iGrann), 4 news apps and BBM all day.
I set the brightness 40% and 40% cool white.

Loved my q5 until I broke it, found a cheap used q10 and went that way. Swipe gestures way better on q5. I hate sending apps to active frames when scrolling, q5 doesn't do that.

Q5 has the most impressive battery i've ever seen... 1-1.5 days of heavy usage. I mean heavy: bbm 4hrs, web-surfing, making calls and music. Now i dont want to go back to my s3 anymore.

    That's not heavy usage

When I'm travelling I use my Q5 on full brightness surfing Web on 3G it lasts about 8 hours continuous use. S3 is a little old now, newer android devices which are the same price can last almost as long but better specs / bigger screen

If someone keeps their phone in their jeans pocket, they will get dusty with all that lint. Especially now that even a CEO at Levies is saying to only wash your jeans once a month.
