How are you using your phone? Lots of apps? Apps running in the background that you're not aware of? Run device monitor and go through EVERY app on your phone to see which one(s) could be data suckers.

Your problem could comprise a number of smaller problems leading to your large data consumption. Time to do some good troubleshooting. Oh and use WiFi whenever you can.

It's always the same question. And always the same answer:
    • Reduce the update intervals of your accounts. If you have multiple accounts for mail, Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp and all the other social crap and these accounts synchronize every five minutes you can be sure your have a lot of traffic (and also battery drain). Set all these accounts on manual update for a moment. The traffic should immediately stop. Then think about realistic intervals.
    • If you use IMAP mail servers who support the Push feature, switch Push on for your mail accounts and set the update interval to "Manually", this is much better than polling your inboxes again and again and again for nothing.
    • If you can't use the Push option for mail, clean your inboxes, don't leave read mails in your inbox. If your device must poll the traffic depends on the amount of mails you have in your inbox.
    • Avoid the stock Twitter app. This app is a data traffic hog. Use Blaq or something else.
    • Close apps you don't need. Many apps do automatic background data traffic to update their timelines. Have you a weather app running somewhere?
    • Disable diagnostic messages in the settings.
    • Disable automatic software updates.
