The Q5 is now available for Rs 13,990 in India! 3 months it had received a price cut of 5K from its original price of Rs 24,990. It's like the early adopters are paying insanely. Not cool.
Not try to rant but, I had saved for almost a year before I could buy a Q5. And within 2 months after I bought this phone, it's now available for 5K less than what I bought it for. Not Cool BlackBerry.

Early adopters always pay more. It's the cost of exclusivity. If you don't want to pay so much and don't need exclusivity than just wait until the price comes down. Simple.
That said, BlackBerry do need to be more careful with their pricing to avoid another z10 debacle. Just because they think they are entitled to a whack of cash doesn't mean the market is willing to pay it. Especially for software still in beta...

I paid $300 for a koodo Q5 and they soon after dropped to $150. Kinda cheesed but more tempted to buy another one. The only thing holding me back is that they only have black.

I don't think that's true at all... manufacturing changes and retooling cost more. BB10 devices are being sold cheap because of weak demand, over stocking, and the looming release of new devices.

This is the norm for electronics of all kinds. TVs, Computers, Tablets, you name it. You pay more to be one of the first, nothing new here.

It's not a norm. Rarely do other phone companies drop their prices so drastically and in such frequency.

I'm not saying I'm against it, but let's not operate on the belief that this is true for ALL phones.

At where I live at least, BlackBerry tends to price their devices above the market. Back when Z10 was released, for example, it was a bit pricier than the Samsung S3! Now I love BB10 as much as the next CrackBerrian but even I gotta admit at that time the pricing just seems a little bit ridiculous...

Point is, BlackBerry needs to adjust their pricing strategy. I hope they learned from current mistakes and price the Classic and Passport accordingly.

Keep telling yourself that to make yourself feel better....

As far as I know the z10 , q5 and z30 went out if production in march/april. They restarted 9900 production due to high demand from enterprise.

Come on, these phones are 1.5 years old. They should either have released new models or cut the price. Deal with it. To put it in perspective, the galaxy s3 was the phone out at the same time as the z10.....

S3 was released june/july 2012. Z10 was out 2013. S4 released just after the Z10 was and just prior to the Q10.

They are not as far behind as you think. I would like to see the Classic/Passport released before the S6 though.

I was referring to the z10 specifically. The android flagship at that point in time was the s3. And don't forget how awful the original bb10 release was. It wasn't until 10.2 (ok maybe can argue 10.1) that it even stood a chance of competing with the s3, by which time the s4 was already out. Anyway my point is they are rather ancient phones by tech standards.

The q10 is another matter completely. It had no competition if you wanted a reasonably modern specced qwerty device. All the others on the market were crappy low end android devices.

Maybe you can learn your lesson and not buy phones on their launch date.

Not only people who buy phones at the launch pay the most, phones at the launch often come with manufacturing issues that need to be taken care of.

That's why I bought my Q10 nearly one year after its launch.

I will get a Z30 when the price hits the bottom for that.

And even Iphones depreciate as well, if not as much.

Ever seen last year's flagship phones becoming the "free phone" with contract?

In the UK at least, they become free phones 3 months after if you've been an existing customer.exception being iPhone.
