I have the Q5 for a couple of days and everything is working great except when using it in speaker phone mode. People says I sound like I'm under water and/or choppy and cutting off a lot. Is anyone else having this problem. It sounds great when using it without speaker phone mode on or when using it with an ear piece. It didn't matter if I was on 10.2.1.xxxx or 10.3. I doubt it, but would changing radios help? Otherwise, this phone rocks and it has the hottest receiver I've ever owned. At this one office, I cannot get a signal and make a call or surf the Web with any of the other phones I've owned and I've had many. But the Q5 got a signal to do either thing. The only other phone I had that could pull this off was the G1. But the Q5 did better and of course it blows the G1 away. Thanks for any input.

Maybe a defect. Can you get a replacement?

You can try wiping the smartphone and reinstalling the device software before returning it to the wireless carrier for replacement or warranty repair. I have been using a BlackBerry Q5 for a year without any issue. With the exception of watching videos I prefer the Q5 to my Z10.

I too have this same issue of muffled sound at the other end when using the loud speaker.

But I have dropped my phone 3-4 times so don't know if it's a hardware issue or came up after the latest OS update.

Wiping (and restoration) takes damn too long on OS10 compared to OS7 that I haven't bothered with it.

    I faced this issue too,
I solved it and the dust under the screen.
Got a replacement front from ebay for about 25? with shipping.

Have had this issue since day one of my q5 unboxing. Has not really bothered me.

Yes, I have adapted by pressing the $ key to switch on / off the speaker phone mode, everytime I need to speak.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I don't want to part with this phone and send it off for repairs for just this and I don't think replacing the mic would fix the problem either. I can't even find someone selling the mic replacement to find out if this would help but It seems like this is more hardware configuration then just replacing the mic, as the phone is perfect in every way but when using as a speaker phone. I like your suggestion of hitting the $ button to toggle between listening and speaking. It might be a hassle at first but I can get used to that. So thanks again.

But IIRC, the mic on my phone worked okay before 10.2.xxx updates. Let's see how it works on10.3.1.

I've tried a few different leaks from 10.3 to 10.3.1 and still no difference. Let me know if you get yours working and what OS. I'm hoping that the official drop of 10.3.1 will fix this, but I'm not holding my breath. Either way, I still like the Q5.
