Add that to the news Amazon UK have massively cut the price of the unlocked SIM free Z10.

It's worrying that both devices have only been on the market a few months but are now being heavily discounted beyond the usual slow reductions in price you see following launch. No one sells something for *300 if they can easily sell the same volume for *400 or *500

Yep, it's pretty scary. I hope the lowering of price here in canada is not a sign of something bad.

It also puts more devices in customer hands, making it more visible. I see this as a kind of "advertising" resulting in increasing product awareness. So I think it's not at all bad.

I don't think most people realize how the market works. When something is initially released into the market it is priced at a much higher point purposely. This gauges the demand and the company adjusts the price accordingly. If they released the product at a much lower price point then imagine the reaction when people see the carriers discounting it. $700 is a bit steep for a cellphone (I know because I paid for it). $600 is more reasonable and it will translate into more sales IMO.
