Hi all, I went into a WIND store today because I'm thinking of moving up to a smart phone and it will be a Blackberry. I already have 3 playbooks, so I want to finally bridge, etc.
The wind guy said if I'm buying a used smartphone, I need to check 2 things: 1) that its unlocked and 2) that it will work on the WIND carrier.
Can anyone help me out on this?
    thanks all for any help.

Are you saying it won't work on the WIND carrier? I was thinking of switching to wind cause they have a cheap, $25.00 + tax for phone calls. Would this not work?
if u have q10 model sqn100-5 yes it will work. if u have sqn100-1 or sqn100-3 it will not work

It probably has to be the SQN 100-5, which would be a T-Mobile or an Eastlink one.

Interesting! How would one know; I only see people talking about the device, not if its sqn 100-5 or 100-3 ?

Ok, I just checked the Wind site andit suppirts a Q 10 that has the following:
    wind Q10 frequency bands: HSPA + : 850/1900/2100/AWS
    EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900
How do I know if a used Q10 has that?

I am interested in this answer also, only some else referred to it as SQR. Not sure what either stands for...

According to wikipedia, SQL= Structured Query Reporting which is a programming language.
Not sure how this translates for the topic at hand, but is probably crucial for different carriers.

There is a sticky thread at the top of this forum showing the different models and carriers.

The model number is in the about screen of the phone or right on the box the phone came in.

I am not sure about the other carriers, but the model you want would probably only be sold by one of the newer entrants to the cellular business in Canada. In the east, Eastlink is one that sold the SQN 100-5. They currently sell them at $360. Because of this being a model only used by the smaller carriers in Canada, it will be hard to find one used.

T-Mobile in the USA also uses the SQN100-5.

the sqn100-? number can be found on the box of the device or underneath the battary gl ive been looking for a used q for awhile now. even one advertized to work on all carriers incl wind when i get there they are not a dash 5 so its been a waste of time. wind sells the q for 399 i might just buy one of those

If you get a Z10, Z30, Or Q5. Or the new Passport. Any of the ones sold in Canada can be used on Wind.

The Q10 is the only one that needs a special model to work on Wind.

No! See post #9 here; go to top of q10 pg and see carriers. It has all the info. Ebay seems to have quite a few unlocked.

I only started researching yesterday and I have the info needed for connecting a Q10 to a carrier. SQN 100-5 is the new one with the frequencies needed. The 100-3 you say you keep seeing won't work with all carriers. At the top of the Q10 page is a list of all carriers and tge frequencies for each. Its not that hard.
