I just received my Q10 and the first impression is good. I am trying to find my way around BB10 (we'll leave that for another thread)

However the NFC chip at the inside of my back cover is covered with a plastic sheet (removable)

    Should that be removed?

I'm assuming you mean the black covering over the square antenna?

    Photo?

Nope it actually came with a thin removable plastic sheet the likes of which new handset screens are covered with (and they are typically removed afterwards)

It's the antenna. Don't remove the plastic sheet. It stop the antenna from rubbing against the battery and the midframe, which can cause some damage.
