On my lovely 9700 I used Blackberry Backup which weekly nagged me to backup to their cloud.

This seems missing on my lovely for different reasons Q10.

Blackberry Protect currently only restores from legacy backups and does all the other features you would of Protect. I'm sure backup will come in time, but Blackberry wants to make sure it won't be a data hog first.

The reason BlackBerry Protect no longer auto backs up your phone is because with BB10, everything (including app data/saved games) gets backed up from the device memory. So unlike before, where you might have a backup of a few hundred megabytes, now you could theoretically have a 16GB backup file, if your phone is filled up.

This would overload the BlackBerry Protect servers. It's a trade off, people always wanted app data to be backed up, but in order to do that, BlackBerry had to remove the remote backup option. There's far too much data on each individual phone to be able to do that remotely while maintaining an effective Protect program (at least from a cost benefit approach).
