I have a Q10 locked to Bell in Canada. I want to unlock it and take it with me to the UK on Thursday this week, buy a BB sim card there and use it for 3 weeks. Once unlocked, will it work on UK frequencies etc.? I need facts/experience - not unverified opinion please.

A Bell Q10 will work on 2100 MHz 3G networks on the UK. It will not, however, work on any 2600 MHz LTE networks.

Hi - I've used my Z10 in Japan, Hong Kong, Brazil and Korea. The only thing I didn't get overseas was LTE - but then it wasn't needed to do what I needed.

You're getting a local SIM which will help - Vodafone is my favourite "remote" SIM supplier but in the UK you have lots of competition. I wouldn't buy just the SIM from a vending machine in Heathrow when you land but rather go to a proper shop and save the 10-15 you would have paid for just the SIM and then get what you want (voice, text, data).

The nice thing about the new BlackBerry10 machines is that they don't require a specific BIS plan any longer: Any data will work just fine. Even if your new temporary SIM just has voice/text the data part will work well over just WiFi when you need it - including BBM.

Either the 1800 or the 2600 Mhz band, because those are present in the Q10/Z10 models launched in Europe. I can't say which one of the two is more common.

Oh yeah. The -3 is good. It's the one UK carriers are selling too.

Awesome! I'm absolutely luving the hyper fast LTE max speeds. It's a huge step up from the BlackBerry 9900.

    BUYER BEWARE!!!
I just returned from a 3 week vacation in the UK, a family member pre-ordered a Blackberry capable SIM for me from T-MOBILE and on arrival I popped it in the phone and it worked great for RECEIVING texts and calls. I then added the 15.00 calls/text and data package and immediately thereafter the service was appalling, so many connection drop-outs it wasn't funny, sat alongside wi-fi routers and in clear, nearby range of cell towers with full signal strength but couldn't connect. Texts and emails would not send, only by rebooting the phone and the phone establishing/renewing connections would it work. I borrowed other sims from Vodaphone and O2 and everything worked fine. When I tried to call T-Mobile they offered loads of auto-select information options but actually talking to a live person costs 25p a minute and when I did get through, the CS put me on hold for 7 minutes only to tell me he couldn't help. A T-Mobile/EE store would swap the sim in case it was faulty but for a further 5 fee and I did not want to throw more money at a bad solution.

So buyer beware, avoid T-Mobile and whatever sim you get offered free in the airport or purchase in a store, make sure they know you are using BB10.

What made you pick T-Mobile when Vodaphone was suggested by TTune in the thread?

I didn't pick it, it was ordered for me by a family member and given as it worked initially I just figured 'why not go with it' - lesson learned!
