Phone is pretty much useless now......its not the battery because I bought a new one and the same thing happens. How do i reinstall software if nec?

You can download one of the stable 10.2.1.xxxx releases autoloader from the crackberry forums and install it. It will install a new OS on your Q10.

Try this forums. It's one of the stable and latest 10.2.1.xxxx
Download the autoloader and the instructions must be there somewhere. Hope this helps.

My battery life also went down the drain after updating to .2977 - however it is by far not as worse as yours. Everybody says you should give your device a few days to settle in, however such a massive drain like yours is absolutely uncommom. I'd check via device monitor which apps/services consume your battery and maybe reinstall the whole firmware. Maybe something went wrong during installation process?

As advised, do a reload, after a BlackBerry link backup.

Sounds like a bad OS install.

This happened to me once, a security wipe fixed it

If reload doesn't work then install an alternative radio file. 2977 comes with 3140 radio which made my Q10 hot. So I just loaded the 3182 radio and it's running fine now.

I've found that the newer os updates don't require as much time to settle. In fact, I don't even notice it now.

The only time I had a problem like what you're describing, it was an issue with Evernote trying to upload a large video file. The video was larger than my account could handle but instead of giving up, it would retry the upload over and over again until batteries died and data limits were exceeded.

I discovered which app was to blame by looking at the 48h graph for cpu, memory and data usage for each installed app. Googled the symptoms with what I discovered in device monitor and the source of my woes was clearly identified then easily remedied.

I'm not saying that there wasn't a problem with your OS install, but you might want to do a little more checking before doing anything drastic. Btw, a fresh os install would have solved my problem but would have taken me twice as long or more.

    Good luck

I refrained from updating to .2977 coz I read about the issues... Try to downgrade. My OS is stable and the only heating was with the "On Location Headless App"... Sadly, I payed for it and I had the same issue than you...
So if you have that app, try first to uninstall it then reboot. Else, try to downgrade.
Here's my OS in the signature:
