A friend of mine has recently purchased a Q10 on eBay, and despite it showing 'Unlocked' for both Network Subset and 'Service Provider', the phone is asking for an MEP code whenever his Three (UK) SIM is inserted.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I've advised him to reject the phone but he is already rather in love with the device and seems determined to fix it.

Welcome to the Forums. He'll have to purchase an unlock code. The device is locked to another provider.

Thanks for the quick reply. It just seems bizarre that the handset itself claims to already be unlocked. I've advised him to give the seller 48 hours to obtain a MEP, and failing that then start a PayPal dispute.

Can anyone here help me? My phone is from Verizon, and says it's unlocked, but when I went to T-Mobile to use one of their sim cards to get their os update it wouldn't find the T-Mobile network. Any ideas?

Also, you might want to check the bands.

This is what my Z10 looks like. What do you mean by checking the bands? I tried T-Mobile but it didn't work with their sim card so I am curious any other carrier runs STL100-4 so that I could their sim and update my OS, then put my VZW SIM back in and have the latest 10.1

Your phone is only compatible with TMO's 2G. You will never get 3G or 4G.

Have you tried to switch to 2G only?

Also, is the SIM card provisioned?

Not sure. I don't need T-Mobile service. Just the sim card to get the 10.1 update then i'll go back to my verizon sim. Not sure if it was provisioned. I went into the store and they grabbed a brand new one from the desk. Maybe it wasn't activated? Should I use someone's that's already activated in a phone? Is what I am trying to do even possible?

I really don't know if an unactivated SIM will work, as I update with autoloaders; but you are better off borrowing a friend's SIM.
