So may I ask about the status on keyboard shortcuts?

I think I recall some sort of slight improvement on shortcut features, but nothing as nice as the 9930.

With my old 9930, I could assign every key. I could hold the "L" and call Lewis. I could hold the "D" and open notes. "J" called Joanna.

Very simple and obvious, but an amazing convenience that allowed me to use the phone almost without looking... no need to open a window or fiddle with the phone.

What kinds of shortcuts are currently available and is there any chance that the Q10 will achieve the same level as the 9930?

Open the Help app and search for “Home screen shortcuts." As for 'one key dialing', you never mentioned which OS you're on so I don't know if it is present on yours currently but alas, it is available on later OS revisions.

I don't own an OS10 device yet. I have a Note 2. Before that, a 9930. I was hoping a "phablet" would fit my needs.

I love the size for actual usage, but I hate carrying it around.

I'm not up to speed on the debate over keyboard shortcuts, but surely many are rather dissatisfied with those kinds of "shortcuts". (are they any easier than just composing an email the usual way?... .I've actually got to spell the whole word "email"? That's a five-key shortcut!!!)

Dialing someone while driving or in a case when I have only one hand...and pressing one button to get it done.... what's not to like?

Is there at least some gossip that there will be true shortcuts in future updates?
Slab phones are too fiddly, but it's an inherent part of tapping around on glass.
With a physical keyboard, there is no excuse.

Wow! Thanks for the listing of existing shortcuts.

They are still lacking. From the home screen, every single key should be available as a one-button shortcut to something. If fast/efficient communication is the objective, this will hopefully be a part of one of the updates.

You know what would be really nice? If they added a Ctrl key, and any shortcuts used with this were global and would, say, open the browser when you press Ctrl+B anywhere in the OS.

Q10 and Canadian all the way!

I wish there was a keyboard shortcut to hang up calls in the phone app. Tapping glass to end the call is so unsatisfying. Maybe the spacebar?

There has to be more shortcuts coming, especially home screen application shortcuts like in OS7. BlackBerry needs to understand that the hard keys can be leveraged so nicely to increase productivity, enhance functionality and offer something truly unique in the smartphone space.

    Why?
It's perfect. I use it all the time.

By the way, instead of typing "email name" it will also work with "mail name". For all you key press savers out there.

Another hint, probably new to some of you: as the search algorithm starts to look for letters at the beginnings of each first and last name, it's often sufficient to just type the initials of a contact. Example:

    Instead of "email (John) Smith",
"mail j s" might also work for you.

Great stuff, and lightning fast, imho. Show me how fast you can do that, you Apples & Androids.

This feature was the first one I tried out, coming from the 9900, right after the Q10 was released.

Then you're a lucky one. You're the only person I have seen that said it works on 10.1.

The point is, big oversight on blackberry's part.
