Not sure if this is a hardware or a software issue. I've read several threads on space bar issues, but none really seemed to mach my problem exactly. I'm using a q10 with the latest official OS release (i.e. no 10.3, no leak). For a while, not sure when it started, I've had this issue that when typing the space key seems to be ignored, so that I get funnytextwithno... (you get the point). When this happens, usually a second press on that key will work. This is annoying as when typing I usually only watch my fingers rather than the screen and therefore see the mess when it's much too late.

Hardwarewise the key feels fine, as far as I can tell, but I would not rule out a simple contact problem.
However I'd not rule out a software problem either, maybe related to suggestion/correction stuff?

Trying to tackle this systematically - if there indeed is a hardware problem, what is the likely kind of repair I'll need? Will a new keypad do?
Else, could it be a software problem? Since I'm not using a 10.3 OS release the effect I'm seeing does not really match posts I've read here, but maybe I missed out on something?

I'd send the device back in case of a hardware issue (which seems to be your case).

If your carrier is a lameputz, take it with BlackBerry.

Thank you for that information. Not wanting to part with my q10 I did some experimenting. It seems to me like it's a software issue after all. I had three input languages configured on my device, English, German and Russian. Just out of paranoia I removed Russian from my settings, and now the problem seems to be gone. Looks like language detection does something weird here. This problem must have been introduced by one of the last OS upgrades...
