I performed one on my Q10 this weekend. Took almost 3 hours. But it finally finished. I wouldn't do anything. Just wait. It will eventually finish. It was the first time I had done one. I had upgraded to 10.2 then 10.2.1 about 2 months ago.

I downloaded the new OS this past weekend, and my phone was going through severe battery issues. We're talking 3 hours or less no use whatsoever (all PIM, Display based drains). After reloading all my apps, and deleting any of the side loaded apps I had (snapchat/instagram)...I cleaned out my phone best I could, and still nothing (the phone took 6-7 hours to charge, but was still draining in 4 hours or less.

I was told a security wipe would be the way to go to really make sure the phone was working properly (and most who have done it have stated this solved their Q10 battery issue). Then I could re-install FB/Twitter/Linkedin/Yahoo Mail etc and go from there.

Well, I started the security wipe about 6 hours ago, and still nothing. Same sim card/paper shredder symbol, and my blue circle is spinning its wheels. What should I do? I ran a full backup of my phone this afternoon right before I went to perform this wipe. Is taking the battery out the next step? Or do I just keep this plugged into my computer and let it run overnight? I really do not want to brick this thing, but I feel this is ridiculous.

    Thank you!

I would let it run all night. I don't have any experience with that, but maybe you just had a lot of stuff to clean up.

Thanks. Still no dice, about to go to bed. Will leave it plugged into my computer and keep it on all night.

Will let you guys know if it finishes by morning. Otherwise...chance it with the battery removal?

Last security wipe I did on my Q10 lasted at least 4 hours. After which I had gone to bed and it was completed in the morning. It might have easily taken 5 hours or more.

Once you start the wipe and you get the shredder and the circle... pulling the battery or doing the 10 second reset has no effect on it. It just resets and the shredder starts up again (at who knows where in the process... potentially the very beginning again). The net is, just leave it alone - it'll get there eventually. I beleive it's overwriting each byte at least 10 times as per NIST standards, still seems long to me but there is 160GB of data to overwrite with random bit patterns (wiping with zero's would be much quicker but is less likely to erase the contents of each bit).

Thanks for the extra info about what the wipe process entails. It has reassured me a little since my device has been wiping for so long & I didn't know why it would take all this time!

Can anyone who has had this issue let me know how it turned out? Have you tried restarting the device?

Sometimes it takes a "while," with my Q10. I recently said it was lengthy.

Always back up your phone! The security wipe could brick/destroy your phone. The max i've waited for this was 5 days, usually it starts quickly then gradually slowing till it comes to a halt at 99%. If you press the on/off button it will re-start all over, and you will have to wait again. If the phone loses power, the phone will display "www.bberror.com" and that's what I did.

    You have 2 options here:
    1. Keep waiting, note that this could take 10 days or more, so be prepared for a long wait and there are no guarantees.

    2. Remove the battery, and get a error message, then use BlackBerry loader to try and bring it back from the dead.
Note: BlackBerry link will not recognize the phone either way.

I did a security wipe yesterday. It's been almost 24 hours and the indicator shows 98% since this morning. I am in a dilemma. Should I do a battery pull or wait longer?
