A normal phone call uses https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.711
A normal cell phone call uses https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Rate which is not as good quality as G711.
A HD phone call uses https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adapti...-Rate_Wideband which is still only 7Khz bandwidth.
Remember that the audio quality is only as good as the weakest link between you and your peer.

Its no great achievement to accommodate 7Khz on a smartphone.
Maybe the noise cancellation is somehow superior or the echo cancellation?
But hey if you think its better, enjoy!

The Passport's natural sound thing is best experienced on a BBM Video call between 2 Passports, provided you can see the HD symbol usually visible only on fibre. Otherwise without the HD symbol it feels nothing better than Skype.

As far as cellular calls between 2 passports go, both users must be on the same carrier and both must be connected to cell towers having HD voice enabled. Then you can make out that a cellular call feels like a voip call.

But unfortunately not every carrier enables HD calling on all their towers. Yeah the Passport beats any BlackBerry device's
