If I put my Q10 into Night mode (or whatever it's called) where you can see the clock against a black background and look at it on the nightstand, I can still see the screen illumination faintly behind the whole screen like an LCD). If I do this on my Z30, the only thing that I can see is the clock. Everything else it totally black and invisible in the dark.
I always thought that both of them had the same amoled screen. Is this not the case?

I am surprised to read the Z30 shows a clear black background which is not illuminated. My Lumia 1020, which also sports a SuperAMOLED screen, also has a slight background illumination although it should display a completely dark background. My Nokia E7, which sports a traditional RGB AMOLED screen, doesn't show any illumination for black areas.

Can confirm that this is indeed the case. My Passport is like my Q10 - not a true, illumination free background. Z30 screen is awesome!

    Q10 is "AMOLED", Z30 is "Super AMOLED-HD"
Check out the Wikipedia page :
    and the paragraph "Uses".
There is a table explaining the difference... in "resolution", not "brightness".
