I'm on 10.2 - Verizon hasn't sent the update OTA.

My photos end up out of focus and, well, I want them to be crisper.

Most of the pictures that I've taken have been of people doing things and it just seems that the focus is sooooo slow that inevitably the picture ends up out of focus.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Camera settings: (default)
    shooting mode: normal
    Scene: Auto

Aspect ratio - doesn't seem to matter.

Try with "face detection" setting OFF, might help!

Also use the spacebar to take the picture instead of hitting the screen. That seems to work better for me.

+1 for that! I've had my Q10 since May 2013 & didn't know that was possible! Ahaa, I'll be doing it from now on! It's cool

Use the focus feature, and play with the settings. There is no universal setting. Also update... search on how to update using sachesi

At last count, there were 56 pages of submissions.

You may want to consider a tripod for your Q10. For landscapes I use a cellphone adapter I bought from ebay that screws into the tripod. This is very similar to what I bought: Clip Bracket Monopod Tripod Stand Mount Holder Adapter for Camera Cell Phone A65 | eBay

Part of taking good photographs is anticipating what your subject will be doing next. It's hard to describe how to take decent photos that you're proud of - best just to take a lot of pictures of all kinds of subjects in all lighting situations so that 1) you feel more confident of your abilities and 2) you learn the limitations of your phone camera. What with the expansion cards 64 and 128 GB of storage, you can shoot to your heart's content. If you start running out of room, simply delete your "mistakes."

Megapixel count is a load of hooey and great marketing. As proof, all of these photos were taken with a Motorola Razr V3 cellphone, with a 1.3 MP camera, automatic settings, no post-processing. August 2007: Adirondack Museum - Album on Imgur

The top one is exactly what I'm talking about - fuzzy.

I'll try the space bar thing.

I also changed the scene to "Action" - I'll see if that works.

Also regarding upgrading, I'm on Verizon so there has not been any OTA yet and to be frank I just got this Q10 about a month ago and I am still relishing the 10.2 experience. I'll upgrade at some point soon I guess, just don't feel the urge. Coming from Android this is SUCH a HUGE experience upgrade I'm like a pig in mud.

And therefore I believe that is why I don't see any face recognition setting to change.

And I had already read through a lot of that 56 page picture thread...neat, but nowhere does anyone offer any advice on how to improve the quality of the photos they are taking.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Spacebar action is awesome!

Maybe your lens might need cleaning. Also you can move the focus box to the area you want in focus. It seems as if the grass in the foreground is in focus and wait until it turns green before tapping the screen to take the pic.
