Why the Q10 OLED is not as black as Nokia's? Prior to (just now) use the Q10, I used the Nokia E7. The E7 screen was gorgeous. When some part of the screen supposed to be black, it is really black (no light emitted). I bought Q10 and not Q5, expecting the same OLED tech. Apparently it's not. So why?
Nokia has "ClearBlack" glass in front of their OLED, which does something with the glare and reflections (and whatnot), to give you deeper black colors. Maybe other vendors have the same thing, but their implementation is reportedly the "best."
Hi, thanks for reply. So it's the ClearBlack technology. I love the Q10 and no regret at all. This is a very good communication tool, and not distracting as android or iphone.
Last note, if blackberry can make a classic form factor with clearblack technology, it will be a more loveable device. OLED/AMOLED + ClearBlack = Perfect display.
It is not the Clear Black technology. I have a Lumia 1020, which also uses an AMOLED screen with Clear Black layer. Hower, the E7, which I also used to own, had a normal AMOLED display. Both the Q10 and Lumia 1020 are using SuperAMOLED screens, they also both use pentile matrixes. Not sure if that causes the not completely black blacks.
Lumia 1020's a standard RGB matrix, not pentile. And it has some of the darkest blacks of any AMOLED screen I've ever seen (not that I'm unhappy with my Q10 - It's fantastic for what it does!)
