Sprint was supposed to unlock my Q10 so I could use a T-mobile SIM card from Germany. Got an e-mail today from Sprint stating phone is unlocked, but I don't think so. First I did a Profile Update under Self Service. Checking Settings/Security and Privacy/SIM Card screen looks like below. Also, when I start the phone without a SIM card it complains and would not connect to the Sprint Network. Also doesn't recognize the T-mobile card.

On my previous 9930 this procedure worked on the first attempt and the phone never since needed the Sprint SIM card to work on the Sprint Network. I would just leave the T-mobile card in permanently and switch to GSM if I needed to send text messages from the T-mobile number. I'd like to get the same setup working on the Q10.

I thought Sprint phones wouldn't work on other networks? CDMA and all that.

It's possible I'm mistaken and that isn't the case with BB10 phones.

So call Sprint. Only they can help you.

Scroll down, and compare your screen to these screenshots.

It's a Global phone, the GSM portion will work outside of the U.S.

They do. They're no longer just CDMA. LTE 1900 CDMA 800/1900, HSPA+ 800/850/900/1900/2100

With that in mind, make sure the setting is on global as well.

To set your roaming options manually:

    • From the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Settings > Network Connections > Mobile Network.

    • In the Network Technology drop-down list, select Global.

Thanks guys, so looks like I'll have to get with Sprint again, job isn't done yet. Do I understand correctly that once the phone is unlocked, it should be able to work with Sprint even without the SIM? Like I said, the 9930 did that. I hope the Q10 isn't behind here in any way.

As far as comparing screens, the examples are Z's and I don't have the bottom part where it all says Unlocked. Not sure if that's because mine is a Q or it's not unlocked.

As for GSM it works outside or in the US. With the 9930 switching between GSM and CDMA always worked within seconds. Sometimes when T-mobile wasn't available immediately, it would connect to AT&T instead. Global is default setting.
