Nice! I did not know this one.

So I've been running my new white Q10 now for almost 24 hours. First impression is really positive. I'm starting to love the physical keyboard again. The obvious is the size difference coming from the Z30. It's literally like coming from a mini tablet. I love the ease of holding in one hand and typing. I never have to worry about dropping it. I'm going to honestly use this for a month. So far so good. I'm even going to stay away from the playbook and ipad and strictly use the Q for all media youtube type. It's not all that bad. I'm loving the auto word predictions above the keyboard very useful. The battery isn't to bad as I'm an extremely heavy user. My Z30 would need to be plugged in by late after noon. With the Q so far it's at 66% it's now 9:55 am I took it off the charger at 5:30 am. Says I have approximately 9 hours left. Great thread!
Via my Q10
Great review so far. I loved my Q10 and all its keyboard shortcuts. It's truly an efficient phone that can hammer out texts, emails, IMs and tweets accurately.
Now I don't mean to sound jaded here but let us know when the double typing starts rearing its ugly head on the Q10. For me, I got the Q10 so I wouldn't make typing mistakes. It got to the point where it was just too much. I'm enjoying the screen real estate of my Z30 now. I will explore the Classic when the time comes though.

@Newfangled - I just discovered this one tonight, but old hands probably have beat me to it.
In the app FeedMinder (the paid upgrade to the bundled RSS Savvy) when you press the N key the screen scrolls downward and pressing the p key scrolls upward through the stories. This also works in long pages in the stock browser. Besides the t key to instantly go to the top and the b key to go to the end in the browser - works the same way in FeedMinder. Haven't tried this in texting because I don't text.
I've had my Q10 for almost 9 months, and have never had the double-typing thing. I'm not trying to minimise your plight, but many Q10 devices never have this issue. Hopefully, the OP's phone will be one of them. *crosses fingers!*

The Q10 Experiment: Day 7 - Apps, Part 1
Attachment 270946
One of the advantages the Q10 has over legacy devices is the quality and quantity of good apps. In this first post about apps, I'll describe 4 social media apps that ship with all BB10 phones. They all have great integration with the OS, as they are integrated with the BB10 Hub, as well as the sharing features of the OS.
Attachment 270947
Simple. Fast. Facebook-y. This is my most used social media app on the Q10, and it does everything I need it to do quite well. I know the young 'uns today think Facebook is for old people, so I guess at 32 years of age I'm officially "old", because Facebook is the one social media platform that seems to have the most people with whom I'm interested in staying connected. Every update makes it that much better (you can finally switch between Top Stories and Most Recent in the News Feed).
One of my favorite things about it is that it does NOT auto-play videos in your News Feed. That's seriously one of the most annoying features Facebook ever conjured up (they've come up with some doozies over the years, haven't they?).
This app is an improvement over the BB OS 7 version in virtually every way. Except this one: no pop-up birthday reminders that allow you to post a greeting directly on the person's wall. Seriously, I loved that simple, but helpful functionality and I miss it!

The premise of Twitter is simple - post whatever you want in 140 characters or less. It's a great way to keep up with people, companies, etc. and share/receive information in headlines rather than massive loads of print. The Twitter app in BB10, like it's Facebook counterpart, is simple, fast, and works well for me, as I only have one account I need to use with it.
Although the BB OS 7 version of Twitter is arguably one of the best apps for that platform and very good, the BB10 version is still better. It's faster, more elegant, and is easier to use, especially when scrolling through the feeds.
Attachment 270955
I don't keep up with this network as much as the others, but the LinkedIn app for BB10 is more than adequate for my needs. There are a few LinkedIn groups I like to keep up with, and I do keep and maintain an up-to-date profile on there, as I have received several job leads that way. It's also a good way for me to keep up with former work colleagues that I don't necessarily want to add as Facebook friends.
It's a major improvement over its BB OS 7 counterpart, which seems like it has been stagnant and hasn't received a significant update in quite some time. You run into that a lot on Legacy Devices (they're 3+ years old, after all).
Foursquare
Attachment 270957
I finally created a Foursquare account this week. I figured hey, it ships with BB10, why not check it out? I was actually surprised at how many of my friends had Foursquare accounts. You can connect it with Facebook, Twitter, and BBM to give you the option of updating them when you do a check-in. I'm still figuring it out, but I can see how it might be useful - especially when shopping or looking for restaurants.
The app seems to work just fine, and I have no major complaints.
I actually tried to sign up for a Foursquare account via the BB OS 7 app during my Bold Experiment, but I think the app was buggy or outdated because it wouldn't let me. I just gave up at the time, as it wasn't that important to me.
Other Observations
One of the coolest features I've found about the Q10 is that from the home screen, you can type "tw" (for Twitter) or "fb" (for Facebook) followed by a space and then use the universal search field to compose and send the post without having to be in the app or the Hub!
Attachment 270960
I don't think I've experienced a quicker way to post to FB or Twitter, and I think this is just an awesome feature that is ONLY available on the Q-series BlackBerry phones.
Overall, I find the social media experience on the Q10 to be, perhaps, the best of any smartphone I've ever used. BB10 features like the Hub and Active Frames make it easy to keep up with everything. And it's the physical keyboard that makes the experience really special. I'm still trying to figure out all the shortcuts and tricks possible, but I'm already extremely impressed at how much easier it is to do certain things on the Q10 vs my Z30.
You can expect several more posts about apps (I haven't forgotten BBM)!
One keyboard shortcut I use constantly: tapping the Spacebar will scroll down 1 full screen, and... holding the Shift key while tapping the Spacebar will scroll up 1 full screen. I use this all the time when viewing posts in CB10. :-)

[Space] moves screen per screen
[R] starts the reading-mode in the browser.
Works on most browser windws, reading mode, even crackberry forum lecture. Besides, in calender, it goes to previous and next day. In E-mail-Hub, you can type the first mail then [N] to get the next one, etc.
Useful feature, for sure!
Cheers!

For the Keyboard lovers: while holding shift (arrow key) in middle of the sentence then hitting delete (backspace) deletes the rest of the sentense/backwards deleting... In the spirit of editing texts.

As does holding the alt button. It would be awesome if holding shift and pressing backspace would delete an entire word like it does on a desktop.

Yes, why not [Shift]+[DEL] for deleting letter per letter and [alt]+[DEL] to delete word per word??
(Either is equal for me, though... I just have to know it!)
;-)

I hope so too.

Your making me fall in love all over again with my Q10 :) feels like I just got it and I'm learning how to use it. I'm kind of embarrassed that I didn't already know this but now I do. I'm looking forward to the Windmere bigger screen plus physical keyboard

My cat, Oreo, likes the Q10, too!
(This is not a staged photo. I set my Q10 on the bed this morning while I was getting ready for work and I found her like this.)

Sorry, no lengthy post today. I'm actually working on another project inspired by this experiment!
I call it: "Q Tips"
More details coming soon!

So Newfangled, how do you like the Q10 compared to the Z30 so far?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
I'm working on another video right now comparing the overall look and feel of the Q10 to the Z30!
Doing the video has made me miss the screen size of the Z30 a bit. But the size and feel of the Q10 is more comfortable to me.
There are obviously trade-offs with either device. I would say if you're into mobile gaming and watching videos, the Z30 is going to be better for you.
But the Q10 is better for handling a lot of emails, IMs, texts, etc. and doing things quickly because of the physical keyboard and keyboard shortcuts. And it doesn't feel like I'm holding up a tablet to my ear when I'm on the phone, lol.
The Q10 Experiment: Day 9 - Q10 vs Z30 Look and Feel
I suppose I'm in a video-making mood, because for this post, I decided to make another video comparing and contrasting the look and feel of the Q10 vs the Z30.
Although I don't think the Q10 has quite the iconic look of the Bold 9900 series, it still looks and feels fantastic. It isn't as cumbersome to handle as the Z30 can be sometimes. And when you see the Q10, you know instantly that it's a BlackBerry.
They're both excellent-looking devices, and compelling arguments can be made for each, but for me the Q10 still beats the Z30 in terms of overall look and feel.
Check out the video for the details!

Nice vid, OP. Thanks for taking the time. Now to find me a reasonably priced Q.
Good luck. Bought mine off Ebay for $218 in mint condition. Had it for a week and loving it.
