Silver scratches?? Well, I know what I'm doing when I get home! I always wanted the outside of my Q10 all silver. Except I have trouble believing this. Unless, you got a chemical on it. I use my phone like a mad man. It's naked. Dropped it plenty of times. The sides have scratches, not a hint or glimmer of "silver" shining through.

I skipped the silver on my wifes Q10 and went gold.

Did the same to mine, FYI, if you scratch the gold... or drop it like I did and it chips, its white underneath.

Look at the frets one more time before you go to bed. So, you can dream about them.

Here are some pictures. This is my old keyboard. I don't use it anymore because it developed the double typing problem.

If you look very closely on the ends of the frets, you'll see the black plastic coming through. It is easier to see in person and it looks very cheap when it's on the device...

Now, I could be wrong, but I do remember them saying that the Q10 had stainless steel frets.

Lmao noooo. I scratched it to see if it would turn silver. If it DID, I was going to continue because I want it silver. I don't care so much of the scratches or dents on my phone. As long as the keys and screen and ports aren't broken and the device works as it should I'm ok. My phone is in nearly perfect condition other than what I did to it lol.

Stainless steel or not, I think BB has done a good job with the frets on the Q10. Overall, I consider Q10 a solid/classy device!

I agree! The frets aren't the end of the world. The Q10 is very well-built.

Ooooh. I was just pondering that as I read through this post . . . you beat me to to the punch!

As for my two cents, the bezel is definitely metal. I did switch to all silver bezel in the lastest Q10.

And when I return home from this business trip, I will try to remember to bend, break or scratch the frets in the usesless keyboards I have collected due to the double typing issue.

Why use 304 instead of 314 or 316? Or even Monel?

If you think the "chips" are waste, you don't know much about manufacturing or alloys.

The stainless steel fret found across the back of the BlackBerry Q10 helps preserve the finish of the back cover by holding the phone off the surface it is resting on.
The keyboard frets have been designed with a chamfered edge so that they connect with the frame with incredible precision and accuracy
I don't see any proofs that keyboard frets made of stainless steel. So, they are exactly plastic like the formers.

I have no idea why anyone thought it was metal. 10 bucks buys a new keyboard and it all looks new. Although my phone shows no signs of where on the frets anyway. Not to say they are plastic I can't tell from looking or feel.

You can feel it when you touch the real steel fret in the back. Total 5 frets on your Q, but the only one is made of steel.

Well, the OP hasn't been back since Blaze's post confirming that the BB blog itself never actually stated the frets were steel. Berryreview added the word "steel" in their misquoting of the original blog. OP - BB never said they were stainless steel and no one cares.

THE QUOTED BB BLOG NEVER SAYS THEY ARE STAINLESS STEEL OR STEEL FRETS. IS NO ONE PAYING ATTENTION TO THAT FACT?

They are definitely not metal. The fret on my Q10 below the alt key cracked and broke off, it's only 2 mm or so(crack is directly below the a on the alt key), but I thought they were metal too until that happened. Either way, they have maintained looking much nicer than the frets on the 9900 so I can't complain too much. After 18 months my Q10 still looks very good and works flawlessly despite almost never being in a case.

Stainless Steel is both a colour and material. The iPhone 6 comes in Silver and Gold. Do you think they are actually made with Silver and Gold?

There hasn't really been any strong proof they said the frets on the Q10 were steel though. The Classic could have steel frets. I guess we will find out soon enough. If the Classic doesn't then that will be an issue but it doesn't look like they tried to pass the Q10's frets off as steel.
