I just picked up a slightly used Blackberry Q10 from an auction a few days ago, re-introducing myself into the BB world after some years. I found a few previous year-old posts describing similar problems but no concrete answers.

Anyhow, I've updated all the software and such and when I launch the camera app, it refuses to focus on any object that I'm photographing. I've tried dragging the focus square around but nothing changes. I've also tried rebooting the phone, etc. I can't seem to find any options to change focus settings, and when I press and hold on the square it just locks the focus (which in my case means it's doing nothing). All the other functions seem to work fine, though.

Any ideas? Could a hardware issue be a possibility?

The first Q10 that I received wouldn't focus. The camera was defective. Haven't had any camera issues with this one though

I certainly hope my camera isn't defective, but if I don't get any more ideas I may have to take it into a repair place since I highly doubt this unit is still under warranty.

Stupid question, but is the camera lens cover dirty?

You can try BlackBerry virtual expert and perform the sensor tests. It tests the front and rear camera. Download at BlackBerry world if you don't have it
