My AT&T Q10's battery is frequently warm when roaming in China and HK. The battery dies quickly. The guys with iPhone do not have this problem. This bothers me as I spend 50% traveling in Asia.

I assume you're not roaming on LTE, right? I suggest you change your network mode to 4G and 3G only so the phone will stop searching for LTE. Switching the network from automatic to manual can also help.

All this can be done under Settings, Network and Connections, Mobile Network.

The same happening with me, the handset heats up and the battery drains too fast

But, this is happening from the last couple of days.

The network mode selected is 3G only.

which part of asia are you roaming in? better off you select 3G/2G mode, asian networks are more congested hence it is normal to have the battery to be sucked a bit faster.

I think I might figure out the root cause: location services. I tried to switch to manual selection 2G/3G network only. It did not stop the battery heat up. I just turned off location services. It is cool now.

Since I turned off the location services, the phone cooled down. After 5 hours, I still have 12 hours of battery. I am pretty happy now.

I just decided to change back to automatic network selection. So far so good.

Turn location services back on. Does it start heating up again?

I did not try to turn on location services yet. I set network selection mode to manual, turned out location services, and just learned to long press active frame to kill an app. Now I got 20 hrs plus battery life on my ATT Q10 roaming in China. I am quite happy.
