Will it be the same as on the Z10, i.e. a USB port that will probably become damaged in 6 months, or will there be a connection at the bottom for a dock like on the 9900, or a magnetic option like on the PlayBook?

I'm very mindful and gentle when plugging in charging or usb cables. Line the inputs up and gently push it in.

Never use force because if you're not paying attention, you could have the wrong side going in and.....there you go.

Yes, but doing it every day, it is bound to fail rapidly. The 9900 and the PlayBook have a reliable alternative. Pretty dumb of BlackBerry not to offer it.

I gotta agree here...even if they come up with some bastardized mutant cradle that you slide the phone into from the side to charge...I WANT MY DAMN CHARGING POINTS ON THE BOTTOM!!!!!!

I've been using micro USB devices for around 4 years now and the oldest of them still has a fully working USB port, zero damage.

In fact from experience I find that the large 30 pin apple connectors were the most likely to fail due to dust having more space to get inside.

Why do you expect the usb port to break so easily?

People are too rough with them. They won't stand the plug being yanked out of the socket with all the finesse of a JCB pulling on it. Just make sure the BlackBerry symbol is uppermost so it's not forced and take it out gently xx

Best to use your eyes with these small usb plugs / sockets. Myself or anyone I know haven't broke one yet.

    Gently does it.

These connectors should have durability on the order of thousands of cycles... ought to last for more than a few years even if you plug/unplug it several times a day. I certainly agree with the above advice never to force it, however...

Rim clearly have the stats on how many people actually buy docks for devices that include those and it wasn't enough to make it a priority feature and if you look at how long after the release of things like the nexus 7 a dock showed up, it does not seem to be high priority for others either.

For those who are concerned about being too heavy handed with their usb port, the simple option would be that external charger pack and always charge your batteries outside the device.

I think it is meant to be something of the order of 10,000 insertion/removal cycles for the micro-usb connector, they made a number of changes from the larger ones to increase their durability.

I am a blackberry fan, I've been using charging cradles for years now, I had 2 for my 9700, 1 for my bold 9900, 1 for my wife's bold 9900, gave one each to my mother for her 9700 and my cousin for her 9900, have on for my playbook. The lack of an adequate charging cradle for the Q10 will likely make me hang on to my 9900 for as long as it works. Such a small simple thing, but it gives my BB a place and with the clock on, it is both functional and elegant.

I have had a chance to use the dev Alpha B and a Dev Alpha C should arrive tomorrow or the next day. So I have quite a bit of hands on with BB10. I know I could adapt to the lack of track pad (despite the loss of ease and precision ) but to have my Work BB lying haphazardly on my desk plugged inti the charging cable, UGH! I will most likely keep the Bold 9900 while it works, the BB10s will likely remain toys for me until and adequate charging stand is available.
