    I recently entered the using-NFC-tags-business.
However, I realized something weird: no matter how I configure my Q10 in the NFC settings, I can't make it read NFC tags when it is holstered.

    I'm using this holster: http://blackberrystore.com.au/images...t-case-242.png

First I thought it's some sort of proximity issue, but then I realized that without holster there's a good inch between tag and phone and it still works.
Then I thought it's a problem when the Q10 is holstered and locked, but disabling the locked when holstered option doesn't help.
Without the holster it works like a charm.

So, does anybody know the reason for this? Is it the holster's proximity sensor (=magnet)?

    Thanks a bunch!

Yes, I believe you've hit on the cause yourself. The magnet in the holster effectively puts the device to sleep, preventing the NFC from recognizing any tags. If you need the NFC function, you could use a non-OEM case/holster, as long as it doesn't have the sleeper magnet.

NFC will not work if the display is off, which is one of the things the sleeper magnet does. This is a safety feature so that your phone can't be skimmed or accessed by any rogue NFC devices.
