Do any of you know what this symbol is? It like an upside-down diamond ring next to the notifications symbol (bell) which in turn is next to the battery indicator. Never seen it before. No apps running. Please see screen grab.

    Many thanks.

Edit: Ah, for some reason it won't attach (anybody know why not?)

Does it look like this. If so it's gps indicator.

Yes it does. Many thanks for the quick response

However, I'm not too sure why the gps is firing up..

Check under Permissions or go to Location Services. Easy way is to just type "permissions" and Location Service will pop up. Check out what it says, it explains it better than I can.
But be advised if you turn it off you won't be able to locate your BB via BlackBerry Protect.
From what I gather it periodically comes on to collect the data it mentions below.

Thanks for the additional info. I'm ordinarily pretty selective about permissions, so I'm sure whatever is using it (probably location services) will be useful.

I had never seen that symbol before so was curious, although it has probably been popping up since I bought the phone.

    Thank you.

It's the gps icon. It means that your gps is active. Unless you are actually using an app that requires gps at the time, it's going to drain your battery.

The usual culprits of the gps being on even though the app is closed are Facebook and Poynt. I deleted Poynt (BeMaps works really well as a replacement) and I keep location services off for Facebook.

Great thanks - useful to know for others.

I don't have either of those apps - facebook is way to aggressive in harvesting contacts and data, so I always delete it - but need to keep an eye on it as any OS update and blackberry forces onto my phone again. Annoying.

    Thanks for the information.
I, to , was having this notification icon appear and then disappear at times on my Z30.
With the info provided here, I now know its BeWeather checking the GPS every 15 minutes to get current weather conditions for my location, which is exactly what I want it to do.
