I am back at a Q10 after having an iPhone 6 for the past eight month. Just got it yesterday and there is a bit of a learning curve (forgot some stuff, having OS 10.3.2.556). Anyway, I have it just about set up the way I want it and even managed to import my contacts from icloud.
The thing I can't figure out is how to move icons from one screen to another. I did get rid of the blank "Home" screen; what I want is have the icons I use most on the first screen if that is possible. The owner's manual just shows that I can move icons around on that page but says nothing about moving them from screen to screen.

Just long press then they will flash. Grab and drag where you want them. Pull them to sides to switch panes

Tried again and it works. I guess I didn't hold the icon long enough at the edge of the pane.
