Has anyone purchased a good keyboard lately. I bought one from a US seller on ebay and the G key is "dead" (works but no tactile response). I'm working on an exchange but I fear this may be an inferior product. If anyone can recommend/suggest a seller they have used recently, I may have to go that route. Thanks!

I bought one from this seller:

    http://m.ebay.com/orderDetails?itemId=121439940652

Received it yesterday and It appears to be a brand new OEM keyboard removed from a Q10 due to the adhesive leftover on the underside as seen in the 2nd photo.

I'll be installing it within the next 1-2 days when the tools arrive.

Do you want an update after I swap out my old one?

That's the one I just bought too. IMO return it if they will let you. It seems to be an inferior keyboard compared to my original and my 1st replacement. I dug in last night and did some more searching and I may try this seller: http://www.globaldirectparts.com/category-s/21805.htm

Took your advice and bought a different one.

    Got this:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00QP...UvbUpU12539036

Arrived this morning and it is DEFINITELY brand new unlike the first one that appears to have been removed from some unit somewhere. Will probably keep it as a spare.

Only thing is the tool kit does not have a T3 torx which seems to be the correct size for some of the smaller screws that i've been reading about that get stripped all the time.

Screws are actually T4 except the two top screws that hold the top camera on which are pentalobe.

I would highly recommend global direct parts (link above) to anyone looking for OEM Q10 parts. Just got my keyboard from them today and installed and I'm back to typing like a beast. I'm keeping the free replacement the other place sent me as a backup should I ever need one in a pinch.

The top two are not pentalobe.

Pentalobe being a 5 star also referred to as a 0.8 and used on iphone products. (see image below)

Torx screws are 6 star, and from my observation, all the Blackberry screws are torx screws.

The top two are a 6 star screws which are smaller than the T4 and seems the T3 will be a perfect fit. I will know for certain sometime this afternoon when the comprehensive tool kit I ordered from ebay arrives.

    Update coming shortly.

Maybe you are right but the videos say it is a pentalobe and I use my pentalobe driver from my iphone kit to take those out. I'd need a magnifying glass to really see they are so tiny LOL...so I just went with what the guys in videos were using.

And I mispoke in my post above...the screws I am referring to are the two that hold on the upper cover that covers the camera. Underneath that are two screws on the back frame that also have to be undone which are T4 like the rest.

T3 torx for the upper two screws that hold the upper piece that contains the camera. See pics below.

Yes that's it. Same seller, pleased with the keyboard and seller.

I briefly searched for the meaning of the orange symbols but couldn't find info on them. I heard this version of the keyboard was a defect free one, so I gave it a try. So far so good.

Yes indeed, forgot to mention those two silver phillips screws holding the keyboard in.

I had ordered this one from amazon. Worked great! Keyboard came as described and was indeed the correct matching US version. Nice thing about this is that it comes with the screwdrivers!

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00QP...UvbUpU12548946

Now, replacing it on the other hand, was not so easy. Some of the tiny Torx screws in my Q were stripped from the factory, so I had to break parts of the plastic to get them off. Was a rather frustrating and grueling replacement process, but managed to get the phone neatly back together in one piece with a lot of patience.

That is the same keyboard I purchased and installed..and it came with those same tools (see pics further up).

The smallest torx screwdriver that comes in that kit is a T4 torx and it's missing the T3 torx you needed for the top camera cover.

If you used the T4 on the top cover screws (that requires a T3), then you definitely did strip them yourself.

The screws do not come stripped from the factory. Ever.

See my post further up with pics of the correct tool.

The smallest screwdriver my replacement keyboard came with worked fine on one side of the camera cover, and also worked on a Z10 I repaired using the same screwdriver set. Screw on the other side was obviously stripped before I even touched it, had a shiny round circle where the star should have been. It was also stuck in there pretty good; had to slice the plastic out around it. I've seen this before on a few other phones I've repaired (granted it's much more common on cheap androids - have never seen a stripped screw on a BlackBerry before).

The orange-character keyboard is the Wubihua / Chinese five-stroke character version. See this page: https://help.blackberry.com/en/black...971895492.html

I have the same keyboard and it's worked flawlessly for me so far (I think about 8 months of use). It felt so much better than the original that I bought a spare.

Excellent - thanks for explaining that.

I can't get mine to work, but thinking because I don't have the Chinese language enabled?

Been a fine keyboard as well for me as well, I just don't type a lot when the phone gets hot.

Do you mean that you can't get the Chinese input to work? I wouldn't know anything about how to do that!

Why does your phone get hot? Android apps?

    To enable chinese, do this:

    Go to "settings"

    Settings>language and input

    Scroll down to "input languages"

    Input languages>add language

If you want to compose a text, BBM or email msg and want to alternate between English to Chinese, do this:

Hold down ALT key and hit the ENTER/RETURN key. The screen will create a whitish "haze" and you can then either use the keyboard to type in Chinese or write the Chinese characters on the screen.

No, it has nothing to do with whether or not Chinese language is enabled. Even as a second or third language. If it is not working, the issue is elsewhere. I have replaced my keyboards with those from a number of countries/languages: makes no impact on the languages/inputs I use on a daily basis.
