Hey guys,

Just a question I have. I love the glass weave battery door of my Bold 9900 however I am concerned with the susceptibility of it to getting scuffed. Take a look at my battery door; not sure if the scuffs were caused by having it in my jeans or by a hard surface but since the whole door on the Q10 is glass weave, it may get wrecked relatively easily. As much as I am still excited for having a full glass weave battery door, I do miss the leather battery doors of the older Bold models. Let me know what you guys think.

That happened to mine too! Thing with carbon fibre is it's a strong material but scratches very easily

The likely thing is that they will have learned from their experiences with the materials used in the 9900, not to mention that the leather-look of the older models clearly had its own issues too, just like glass, metal, plastic etc. all do as well.

supposing its real carbon fiber blackberry put a coat of clear plastic over it and that's what scuffing / scratching on the 9900 back plate

It is not the same. Even has a different feel and look
I don't believe it will scratch like 9900/9930 plus we need to see finalized products because we seen leaks with the same back as the z10. Just my 2cents.

Why does it matter? It's a phone, without a case on it will take wear and tear. You want it to look like the day you took it out of the box? Then put it in a case.

I don't think a case is the answer either. Fact are facts and most cases scratch the phone over time. They rub and wear on the phone. There are places that spray a hard clear coat on the phone. I personally don't keep them long enough

I don't think you can compare the materials of the 9900 battery door and the one of the Q10. Thorsten, as well as other BBRY reps, mentioned multiple times the woven-glass material is completely new and has never been used for another phone. So on the Q10 this is actually a first timer premier.

Does anyone find it difficult to take a case off because the batter door comes off with it? Any suggestions? I don't want this to damage my phone. Thanks!

In addition, Blackberry has stated the metal line across the back is 'raised' to prevent scatches and/or scuff marks.

The back of the 9900 is not real carbon fiber. Carbon fiber messes with the nfc antenna, so it's just made to look that way.

On the 9900, the battery door is covered with a glossy material so it shows scratches very easily. The Q10's battery door is covered with a matte, soft touch material so I think it will probably hold up a bit better.

It's a fiberglass cover dyed black to resemble carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is too expensive to put on a phone. On this model it looks like they put a clear coat on it. That's what's scratching here.

Exactly! Carbon Fiber is a conductor and would ruin the signal. Fiberglass is an insulator so that's why it's used here.

the battery door on my 9900 has been scuffed a bit too.....but only in a few places and its not that noticeable. even so, hopefully the q10 will not scuff as easily.

Not true, with the leather backdoors I kept my phone looking fresh out the box without a case.

Plus I rarely ever see a case compliment a phone. If you don't plan on selling your phone after you're done with it then I say rock it caseless while it's hot.

I think a clear film from Tech Armor would be ideal. Then peel ff and get a new one everytime it gets scratched up.

I'm 22, don't condescend me. Personally, I take care of my blackberry and I don't care for all the fancy bells and whistles on modern day smartphones, I use google maps, the scheduler and just a few important apps such as bbm and poynt. I do care for having a blackberry that doesn't get easily wrecked. If sliding it across a table will leave an ugly scuff mark across the back of it that won't go away, then I need to know that so I can opt for a model with a different battery door if the option is available.
