I have a passport, I LOVE BB10 best os, I needed something smaller, so I found a brand new q10 for 220$ canadian but I saw that whatsapp will end by end of 2016 for bb10, and now that blackberry is going android, so how long will the q10 last me? One year? Two tops? Should I just keep my passport and not waste money on another bb10 device since its going to stop one day?

You shouldn't buy a Q10 if you depend on using WhatsApp.

The Q10 with BlackBerry OS 10 will definitely work for the next years in its basic functions.
Apps however probably will stop working with the time.

Honestly I really don't know. They probably will work for a certain while, but it could always occur that there will be a required update on an app that cannot be installed on your Q10, for example Android apps that need the latest runtime. This simply would lend to apps not working on the Q10 anymore.

However nobody knows yet for what apps and especially when this will be the case. But I guess WhatsApp was just a start.

Honestly, check your applications if they are available in BlackBerry World first, or if they have really good native alternatives. If you rely mainly on apps, Q10 is not for you. Because as you know, BB10 app selection is really not that great. It got good apps, but not much.

And by BlackBerry World, I mean, if they support Q10.

If you are talking about Android apps, it is possible to keep the current version and not update them. Then it will keep on working.

Don't buy any new bb 10 s. Just keep what you have and cross your fingers for more Android blackberry devices.

You can install tha whatsapp android app and keep updated that way, the only problem is not support for bb hub. You don't need to stop using your favourite OS mate.

Truth be told. Whatsapp hasn't really changed so we won't be missing anything. More over I use it sparingly..

I believe you're worrying for no good reason at this point. I am using. Q10 that is three years old and I just purchased a new one last month. For the record, my Curve 8330 is still functioning fine and continues to be used everyday without issue. Age doesn't enter into the equation in this case any more than it does with antique cars.

Or you could invite your contacts to install and use BBM? It works on all platforms.
Or viber. Or telegram. No app is vital, there is always workaround.

It's true that the Android version of WhatsApp works on the Q10 for now. But don't rely on its functionality. There just needs to be one major (runtime) update and that "workaround" is gone.

I totally agree that the Q10 still offers a certain amount of functions and is not dead. However with announcements like the one from WhatsApp now this functionality slowly dies. Just keep that in mind when suggesting buying a new device.

I've had a Q10 for > 2 years, I love it and I intend to keep using it as long as it will keep going. The BB10 apps on it work great, and I have no reason to think they will suddenly stop working. BB10 is a great OS, despite Blackberry's decision to stop making new handsets with it. And frankly, lack of support for whatsapp is a plus for me - all the more reason to stick with my Q10. :-)

I think if you love BlackBerry Q10 just buy it (I also consider to buy Q10 ) and if whatsapp for BlackBerry 10 os didn't work just use android version (my telegram android application work well)

I was going to buy a new Q10, but I heard the news about WhatsApp...-img_20160301_202454.png
