i had an iphone 5 before i got my q10 and i used to group text a lot with friends. i tried to create one on my q10 for the first time and it just sent the text out individually. my friends own iphones 4-5 and galaxy s4's. is there something i should do in settings or its not possible to group text with other phones that arent bb? thanks in advance

    It's pretty easy.
Just go to the hub. Tap compose. Tap the text message icon. Add the friends you want to group chat with in the "To" text field (under "Compose") by pressing the plus symbol that sits all the way at the right side of the text field.
    Then write your message.

You can do this two ways...in Contacts, click the "add group" icon, then select the people you want in the group. Once they're selected, you can long-press them to get a menu option to chose what line to use (if they have home and mobile lines listed, for example). you can also just start a text and select more than one recipient, adding whomever you want to the text as recipients if it's a one time group message thing.

Honestly, groups don't seem to work that well for me in Contacts - the numbers I select get unchecked, and they don't all get the messages I sent. So I downloaded an app called SMSbyNow, which allows you to create & save groups, and send group texts or emails. You can choose to delete certain people from a group on a one-time basis (if you need to send a message to a bunch of coworkers but not the coworker who's on vacation) without deleting them from the group permanently. The app works VERY well, and I've never had an issue with it not sending to everyone as I sometimes did when I was using Groups in Contacts.

Alternatively, have your friends download the BBM app and create a BBM group - that would be a FAR better solution, and allow you a lot more options. I have to stick to SMS because some of my contacts still use non-smart, flip phones (gasp!).

    Hope this helps.

Is your text messaging settings for MMS setup properly. Sounds like your sending SMS's instead an MMS.

All your texts will be MMS. You will still be able to text just no SMS texting till you turn the setting back. Or you can set it to automatic.

If you send all texts as mms, the people who have their phones set to only download mms after hitting download will hate you.

I'm in the same boat as you guys. Group texting is pretty broken.

I have been reading these group text threads bc I'm equally curious how to get it working, I today switched it to automatically switch between sms/mms, wondering if this will make it work correctly.

If you're on BB10.1 MR then it won't work.

Not sure about 10.2 but 10.2.1 has this feature.

Didn't occur to me that the OS might not allow it. I am running 10.2.1.1925 and it works smoothly with group messaging.

I used the autoloader that was posted on CB. If you're okay with updating your OS that way instead of waiting for your carrier to push it out to you.

For a lot of us there is no box to check. Didn't have one on 10.1 or 10.2.1.

Agreed. I set all my texts to MMS and now I can group chat but only if one of my friends start one. Still don't know how I can start one myself but for now this is good enough

On 10.1 with sms/mms set to automatic it worked like that, but yea now I have to manually change it to mms. Must have broken something in 10.2.1.

Go to HUB then Compose then Text Message. In the address bar enter the person. Hit the plus sign to add a second person. Once a second person is added the box should pop up. This on Z30 running stick OS 10.2.0.xxxx

    Hope this helps

A lot of us, including me, running official 10.2.1 don't have that check box available.

    Sucks.

I've heard that. I know on the iPhone if you go to Message Settings you can Enable or Disable group messaging as a whole. Maybe there is a setting in 10.2.1 that that enables group messaging for all messages with more than one recipient. I can't install leaks and the update for the Q10 and Z30 isn't available on Verizon so I can't check. Maybe try this:

Go into HUB, tap 3 dots, tap Text Messages for the Text Message Settings and maybe it's in there?
