It's the free prize only a percentage of the Q10's have ;) No, it's a random issue that affects some Q10's. It appears to be issue inherent with the phone, nothing you do induces it.
The easiest way to get it is trade phones with someone who has it.

From my experience it is the physical keyboard itself that causes the issue. I just replace my double-typing keyboard the other day and the new keyboard is a dream...perfectly 100% correctly functioning. It was worth the effort, time, and expense.
I have not experienced this with my Q10.
I was also wondering about double typing.
Just to be clear, I'm not saying all Q10's experience this. All I'm saying is mine did.

My provider gave me a brand new one. All gone now
Q10 with Telus on 10.3.0.296
I longly thought, I am not affected... It is as if a key were loose or oversensitive, so clicking on it would result into typing two letters.
I offten type:"Heello" although I typed on the E only once.
Keeepping <--- here a concrete case, I let it uncorrected!!
Keeping the finger on a key does not show a line eeeeeeeeeeeeeee like on the computer, but a capital E! So it is not a key issue per se,
AND THERE IS NO LOSE KEY ON MY KEYBOARD!!!!
A possible solution would be a OS-routine/program-line... a sort of "if..then" clause:
"If a key is pressed once..then only display one letter of that kind"
So typing a doule "ee" is still possible if done manually: each typing shows one "e" so typing the letter two times shows 2 of the letters and not 3 like in my typing issue arrowed above.
How "I LIVE WITH IT" is for me simple, for some here unimaginable, but I said it in earlier posts/threads of this kind: I am able to write blindfold...
In the time of Nokia 3310, i was often in class, called up sms, without looking to the screen, eyes fixed on the teacher, I wrote whole textes!! I re-read them before sending and rarely had to correct. Then, I had a curve, a bold and now the Q10. I learned (over years) to type with the two thumb(nails) and my fingers jump from key to key, faster as my eyes can follow them, writing my thoughts... I only need a guidance, an occasional glance. My eyes fix rather the screen, and as soon as I see a double-typed letter, my right thumb jumps to the [DEL]-Key to type it once/twice/thrice, to delete the some letters typed after the double typed one and continue my writing without losing my flow.

A friend of mine got it by dust.
So shaking it carefully and knocking at the corner removed the dust under the keys and it was working again.
Not sure if it works always, but maybe worth a try. :)
I didn't have the double typing issue until a few months after I had my Q10 - go figure. I've wondered if it had to do with dust and oil from one's hands - going to give that suggestion a try Kadusch :)
Dust in the keyboard is one of the speculations on how it happens. I'm in construction and have abused every BlackBerry I've owned, and have never had any long term keyboard issues until the Q10. I have gently blown out the keyboard multiple times, and it has made no difference on my Q10.
