UPDATE!!: I finally was able to try out a different pair of headphones with my phone to see if that was the issue (thank you dguy123 and Joshu42!) and it turns out it WAS the headset, not the jack. Which is a relief that BlackBerry's headsets are more reliably built than iphone's accessories XD thank you for all the suggestions. If any mods are available please feel free to lock this thread as the solution to the problem has been found

I bought my Q10 used and everything was tested and working fine for a bit over a month now. I frequently use my phone to listen to music (with and without headset) and i've never had a problem UNTIL yesterday after about an our of headset music listening it stopped playing sound. When I pulled the headset out of the jack it worked again; plugged the set back in and voice assistant woke up. I closed it and tried listening to music again, sound came out fine but then the volume control buttons would not work for the volume OR for changing the song, neither did the pause control work. Screen controls work fine. I have tried everything I could think of: hard reset, soft reset, factory reset, reloading the software, etc. Nothing seems to work and this is driving me crazy cause I use my phone for listening to music SO MUCH. Everything worked perfect up to yesterday.

    So, quick recap:
-plug headphones in for music, voice assistant opens (every time).
-with headset in I can't use side button controls for music (works fine without headset in)
-tried everything to fix it already

Can anyone tell me definitely if it is a hardware issue? If I bought the phone used from a private seller can I send it in to get repaired? Please help!! I love my phone and don't wanna give it up because of stupid headset issue!

Ugh I would be frustrated too. How about maybe just side loading the music player bar file? What OS are you on?

    I'm on 10.2.1.2156
I'm kind of worried it's more of a hardware issue than a software one :/ I will look into sideloading the mp bar file though, thank you for the suggestion!

You could be right. Let's see if the bar file fixes it. Otherwise, if it's still under manufacturer warranty, you could put a claim in with BlackBerry I think.

I know I'm pushing my luck here but is there a way to check if it's still under warranty with the imei or other information that's on the device? Your help is much appreciated

What carrier is it from or is it direct from BlackBerry do you know? Carrier sites usually have a place you can check with the imei number.

You can try push the jack slowly halfway in until there is a sound then only push the jack all the way in. This happen to me when I use a speaker.

Symbian is still and always my favourite Os. Nokia 808. FilePLAY Music Player

It is from T-Mobile, I think one of the later model ones because it didn't have the double-typing issue

Then check their site, or call them and ask them to check the imei

If it really is the headjack port, you could buy the part and have it fixed or do it self. I'm sure there are many videos on how to?

Before getting too carried away, try a different headset with the phone.

    Hopefully that's it.

At any rate the issue is making the phone think your mute button is pressed... intermittent will mute your music, extended will launch speech.

I had the same problem. The issue was the original headset with flat cable. I could make it work by gently move the cable near the jack...
Well, I switched it. All is perfect now.

Which type of headset are you using? I'm using the new style of iPhone earbuds and they worked perfect until yesterday maybe I plugged em in one time too many?

Definitely try different earphones. I've been down that road with iPhone junk. They don't last when used heavily.
