Spoke to VZW and I have been out of contract for some time. I use a 9930 currently. They will offer me a free Q10. Should I wait for a qwerty in the fall, or go now. Also is a Q10 as compatible with my PlayBook as my 9930? Like always thanks for any advice.

The Q10 is compatible with the PlayBook, but its Bridge app has a lot less features. However when I got my Q10, I stopped using the PlayBook altogether (I'm fine with viewing media on a smaller screen). The browser is a lot faster and since the Q10 has more RAM, its browser never crashes.

If Verizon is offering it for free, I'd go for it. That's a great deal!

If your fine with the 9930 and don't mind waiting then paying for a phone wait. If you want a new device and want it for free the Q10 is excellent. I actually just used my upgrade a month or so ago for it and couldn't be happier. I'm looking forward to the upcoming BlackBerrys though because I want the trackpad again but I absolutely have no regrets with this phone.

Or OP, you can find a second hand q10 on eBay or Craigslist and save your upgrade for the Classic.

That's what I plan on doing!

I was thinking the same thing. You can get a used one fairly reasonable on Ebay or Swappa too. I think I paid about $250.00 brand new. I just purchased a Z30 to compliment my Q10. Either way, excellent phone.

The Q20 is not to come out until the end of the year and that is assuming everything goes as planned, so don't really expect it until Jan or Feb. That is almost a year, do the EDGE plan... it will most likely get you a better monthly rate on the more everything plan vs doing the two year contract and free phone. Put about 50 to 75 bucks down and keep the full 16$ monthly payment for the Q10 and you will be about at 50% payoff when the Q20 is out and then your ready to trade in and start a new EDGE plan with the q20, yay

I believe Verizon now offers plans that are cheaper if you're out of contract. So save some money by keeping your current device, switching to a discounted out of contract plan, and then when a desirable blackberry is released, either buy it full price or use the carrier subsidy and go back on contract.

Unless of course you're not the typical blackberry fanatic who always needs the latest, grab the free q10 now and ride it for the one or two years until you get another upgrade.

The off contract discount is the same EDGE discount per line when you are on the MORE everything plan, contract lines do not get the per line discount.

I have a Q10 with Verizon and honestly I would hold out for the upcoming qwerty phones. I have the double tying issue but it doesn't occur enough to return and go back to my 9930. I do miss the Bold as a daily driver and I do envy anyone still using a legacy device due to the lack of features;Bridge, BlackBerry Protect, TrackPad, Notification Settings etc...

I do like the suggestion of buying off ebay or similar.

BB10 is amazing but it will only be better by the time BlackBerry releases the following phones.

I think the classic will bring with it a large OS update with optimizations for keyboards... most likely why it's so far off, I just hope we don't get today's hardware tomorrow because it was waiting on the OS.

Go with the q10 there is no guarantee that the new one in the fall will be at Verizon

Go for the free Q10 now. Once the Q20 comes out, then worry about getting one.

I'll be one of the first people in line to get the Q20, the Q10 is holding me over just fine for now. The Q10 will be a nice upgrade from your current device. Good Luck.

Thank you all for posting. I think I'll wait for the next qwerty. I'm just kinda sad that it as well.......will not be a direct connect to my PlayBook. I guess I'm going to have to tablet search as well. Side note, I was at the local mall today and not one of the carriers had a Q10 to even play with live. SAD.

Sounds like you made up your mind. If you're not going to enter another contract make sure you get your discounted out of contract pricing, they may not do that for you automatically and I'm especially suspicious of Verizon who has always done the most to squeeze every penny out of their customers.

I still have a bad taste in my mouth because I once brought my own device a few years ago to verizon and they still gave me a two year contract even though I had not used a subsidy, what a shady practice.

The money you save over the next few months after switching plans to a discounted one can go toward the next qwerty device when it is released

I just bought my Q10 from shopblackberry counting on Q20 comming towards end of 2014. I am done with contracts as I can now purchase phones directly from BlackBerry. My advise to OP would be to wait for Q20 if contracts are okay. However, if the next upgrade is not more than a year ahead, then go for Q10 and then upgrade for whatever phone will be available at that time.
