OK finally broke down and bought a smartphone (Q10) and a Rogers Data Plan. Have read the manual and scoured the forums but still can't figure out how to set my default (Global?) ringtone on phone, or (Global?) notification tones on other features. Managed to customize notifiers for individual contacts but totally stumped for setting basic ringtone. Been to Settings>Notifications>Mode/Sound/LED etc but can't find a drop down that allows me to set Ringtones I have on SD card music folder. OS is Need a patient Samaritan to walk me through it. Thanks in advance.

Actually, you were almost there -- just needed to scroll down further. Settings > Notifications > Applications. There you'll see the email, phone, etc. listed. Tap on one to make a change and you can start customizing.
