You can perform the setup and the updates and then charge it while turned off

Thanks!
I charge it until the light turns off or for a good amount of time such as 6 hours?

Supposedly, lithium batteries (in all modern smartphones) will not receive charge after they are full so leaving them plugged in beyond that point would be a wasted exercise, making no difference.
The old batteries of yesteryear (before lithium came in) were the ones which had a memory effect and benefited from charging beyond the full point on first charge to ensure the battery had full calibration with its maximum capacity. Lithium batteries are supposed to be more advanced in that they automatically shut off the power current when they reach 100% (sort of a self preservation fail-safe) and cannot lose calibration.

Charge it any way you like, doesn't matter. The battery is 'smart', you don't have to worry about over charging it. I have 3 Q10 batteries and I've had them since launch and I pay no attention to when I charge them, they're all still good.
