Yea that's what I'm mostly concerned about, the efficiency that I have now. I'm sure in time I'll adjust pretty well, but navigating through e-mails or selecting text just wont' be as efficient.

Two-three days with a Z10 and you will be like trackpad what? It was obsolete and needed to go simple, it was cool and very useful while it lasted but wasn't going to around forever, im so happy the Q10 and Z10 ditched it!

I will miss the trackpad, but that is not what has been on my mind lately about the Q10. I am already sold on it, all I want to know about now is when it will be out in the US? Will the all the Z10 apps run on the Q10 with the different screen size/resolution/dimensions? How durable is the model with the rubberized back? Is it durable enough where I wouldn't even buy a case for it?
I luv my Bold 9900 with its trackpad and great keyboard, but I am amped for the Q10!!!
My Bold 9930 is the ideal device for efficiency, I couldn't imagine a phone being more efficient for my needs with the combo of keyboard, trackpad and touch screen. I'm hoping the Q10 takes this to the next level and isn't a step back.
We have seen how the predictive text works on the Q10 where it's a lot the same as on the PlayBook or many android phones. If they can use that space for that then I'd like to see an "onscreen" trackpad for those that want it. It wouldn't be a hard thing to do and no "hardwear" to break.
Even a 3rd part app might be able to do this. Any devs out there feel like tackling this one?
Or could've brought back the scroll wheel. :)
i know it will take getting used to but copy/paste with trackpad was so easy.......
Yes it sure was. After my 9930 broke and now that I'm using a touchscreen only phone, I cringe everytime I need to cut/copy/paste anything.
I said a long time ago that the PlayBook needed a virtual on-screen trackpad. Same goes for BB10.
When I got the z10 I thought I had to move the bubble with my fingers on the touchscreen...quite annoying lool. Now I like the bubble!!! 10 times better than selecting on playbook!!

Yes a remember someone saying that. Apparently that someone was you. Diagonal swipe from the bottom right wasn't it?
At least we have Bridge touchpad...and I would be satisfied with that blue bubble on the playbook

Had a bold 9700 before my z10 and although the touchscreen took some getting used to, I wouldn't ever go back.
I was initially contemplating waiting for the q10, like most querty users would, but ultimately I couldn't wrap my head around the point of a keyboard when touching the screen is required in order to navigate the OS.
Fwiw, I'm just as fast if not faster typing on the z10, the tips of my thumbs don't get sore and I have a beautiful big screen for doing all the other things a modern smartphone is supposed to do!
Cheers

Same on the PB. If you use a PB you're halfway there.
OP--I share that concern.
In some thread on these forums (that I couldn't find now, sorry) there is mention of a function that could help with these concerns: they say that when the "maginfying glass" appears you can not only drag it around but also tap it once for one cursor step. So a tap to the left/right/up/down of the circle makes the cursor go one character to the left/right/up/down.
EDIT: I found it, it's here.
Sounds good to me. Still I can fully understand the OP's concern and wish they had simply included a trackpad on the side or on the back of the device in order to retain as much screen real estate as possible without having to ditch the trackpad.
I added a phone number to my address book on my 9800 yesterday.
The call display shows +12345678901 and I want it formatted without the country code and like this: 234 567 8901
As I was scrolling the cursor back and forth with the trackpad to make the deletions and add the spaces, I was wondering how fiddly this would be on the Z10. The trackpad just seems to make these things a lot easier.
I think I suggested that. I was looking at the blue light on the top of my Torch 9800's dock that day thinking that they could emulate that little blue light ont the bottom and right edge of the PlayBook's screen. Swipe in from the corner, the blue glows light up and you simply stroke the bezel next to the glows to move the cursor as if you were swiping at the trackpad.
If any developer wants to use this idea, just send me a $20 Tim Horton's gift card and we'll call it even :p
I have the Z10 and although the touchscreen bubble isn't as precise sometimes as a trackpad, it still gets the job done well once you get used to it.
The edit bubble actually acts as a trackpad. The trick is that once you activate the bubble, position your finger on the bubble on the opposite side of the direction you want to move the cursor. This prevents you from running out of screen to drag the cursor with and also prevents your finger from blocking the screen/cursor as you move.
For example, click once to activate the bubble. If you want to move the cursor left, put your finger on the right edge of the bubble and move the cursor to the left to your desired position.
All in all, after a few days with the Z10 I got used to not having the trackpad.
Typed on my playbook.
I never use the bubble this way...I use it like I use the "Arrows" on my desktop computer. One tap left or right to move between each letter...like on a computer, so intuitive for precision!

It's not that I find the bubble fiddly, but half the time it doesn't even show up when I tap the text.
mr zed10,
Thanks for the information, just what I was looking for. I use the BB Bold 9900 for emails and do a lot of writing including cutting and pasting text from documents and notes. I have ToDoMatrix and other apps I rely on for business. So, I worry about whether all those apps will be available for the Q10. But I always come back to -- I want the speed and precision of a trackpad.
And the fact is the BB9900 with its Seidio 3000mAh Super Battery does everything I want exceptionally well. It is very close to the perfect business communications device.
Again, thanks for your comments.
... Yep, I will go to the AT&T store and try out the Q10 after it arrives. :)
I was trying to edit text in a facebook post before posting it, but tapping on the text didn't bring up the bubble. Was I doing something wrong?
Only thing I can think of is that the bubble will only appear when the keyboard is visible. Occasionally it takes a double tap.

Believe me, you're wrong - as Bold 9900 user, I had the same fear, but Q10 is fantastic and don't have any needs anymore for trackpad!!
